ONE OF OUR GREATEST PASSIONS AT CFC IS TO SEE PEOPLE DISCOVER AND USE THE INCREDIBLE GIFTS GOD HAS PLACED WITHIN THEM... The Catalyst Academy exists to equip you to discover and develop these gifts so that you excel in leadership and ministry. Through a mix of practical and theoretical training you will grow and learn over the course of the year in the heart of our worshipping community and the result will be a new generation of leaders rising up to build the church. By giving a year of your life to serving, developing your gifts, character and passion, you will become more of the person God created you to be. You have one life to make a difference and there is no better way than to be equipped with all that you need to build God’s kingdom and engage and excel in the future God has for you!

Andrew McCourtSenior Pastor

THE AIM OF CATALYST IS TO EQUIP AND DEVELOP YOUNG LEADERS TO BE MISSIONAL DISCIPLES WHO BUILD AND ADVANCE GOD’S KINGDOM...The Catalyst Academy is inspired by Ephesians 4:11-12: “It was He who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to equip God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up.” The Catalyst Academy will deliver incredible opportunities to be equipped and developed in all areas of ministry and leadership through mentoring, lectures, mission trips, retreats, specialised training and practical experience. Forget about unproven theories and boring formulas, The Catalyst Academy converts revelation into practical application. From day one you’ll go from the classroom to getting active both in your church and your community. Get Catalysed and experience the best year of your life!

ACADEMY LIFE......................................................................................Catalyst Equip is designed to help equip you as a person in relation to your character, integrity, personal gifting, confidence, faith, and excellence supported by practical training in leadership and ministry.

ENGAGE... CHURCH LIFE......................................................................................The Catalyst Academy isn’t just about ‘head knowledge’ - you’ll be putting what you learn into practice! Interns will have the opportunity to engage in church life in the following areas:

Church Services: Sunday services are the flagship event for any church and intern involvement in helping it run with excellence is one of the most important training grounds for learning and gaining experience in servant leadership.

Conferences: Throughout the year interns will have the opportunity to attend and facilitate conferences and workshops for all areas of church life. This will give the chance to learn key skills such as teamwork, team leading and managing responsibilities and deadlines along the way.

Mission: Interns will have the opportunity to serve on an international mission trip. This is often one of the most exciting and life-changing experiences of the whole year.

Retreats: All interns will get the opportunity to attend a couple of retreats during the course of the year. Retreats provide intentional time and space for interns to refocus, refresh and realign in the midst of a year of service.

EXCEL... PERSONAL LIFE......................................................................................Whether you have a clear idea of God’s purpose for your life or not - the Catalyst Academy is an opportunity for personal growth and development that at times can be incredibly challenging, but is always rewarding.

Personal DevotionInterns will be encouraged to pursue God personally during the course of the internship. Leaders are there not just to train interns in tasks but also to spend time helping to fan into flame the gifts of God within them. An intern’s personal walk with God will be their greatest asset throughout the Catalyst year - indeed throughout life!

Pastoral SupportInterns will become a member of a Connect Group and will be actively involved in its activities within CFC. This will ensure that their year is surrounded by great friends who can encourage them as they press on to see God do great things.

MentoringEach intern will have a Mentor who will provide them with care and support on their journey of discipleship. Character DevelopmentThe Catalyst culture values intentionality and accountability. You will be challenged to reflect Christ-likeness in all aspects of your character, setting an example in speech, life, love, faith and purity.

THE CATALYST ACADEMY OFFERS MULTIPLE MINISTRY STREAMS AND WITH SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE, YOU’LL FIND YOUR PLACE...

Page 9: The Catalyst Academy 2014-15

CFC EVENTS TEAM......................................................................................The Events department within CFC programmes and organises Sunday Services, weekends, conferences and one-off events for the CFC community and beyond as required. It has been involved in organising retreats for 30 people, large weekends for 1000 and events for up to 8000 to name but a few.

WHAT WILL YOU BE INVOLVED IN?You will work from the concept design stage to running an event including post event analysis and closure. Concept design stage involves being part of the event’s creative team to consider the idea, purpose and intention of the event. As this develops you will be involved in crafting the look and feel of the event by drafting out the event programme. This leads to the development stage where you will be working alongside the Events Coordinator. This includes detail work - initial contact with speakers/bands; venue; marketing & budgets, health & safety; technical support, hospitality and event volunteer teams. You will be involved in whatever is required to ensure the event runs smoothly and professionally. In-depth development takes on the fine-tuning of details; liaison with speakers, accommodation, venues, briefing team leaders, building teams, detailing final programmes. Event Live - you will be helping to run the event alongside the Events Co-ordinator. This opportunity is for anyone who is creative, has an ability to organise and direct and loves seeing plans brought from concept to event. Your will learn from design concept to detail planning and organising, and have the joy of seeing it all come to fruition in the actual event.

CFCADMINISTRATIONOFFICE......................................................................................CFC is a very vibrant church and the Administration Office is involved with all the different ministries and departments within the church providing administrative support. We are often the first point of contact for people with the Church and therefore aim to represent Jesus to everyone who phones, emails or comes into the building.

WHAT WILL YOU BE INVOLVED IN?Each day in the office at CFC is different! This means that you will be involved in a wide range of administrative tasks including using databases, word processing, producing resources, weekly checks, administration and registrations for upcoming events, administration for Sunday services and contacting members and volunteer teams via phone or email, to name but a few! You would be part of a team and work in a busy but fun environment where there is never a dull moment!

CFC KIDS (0-10)......................................................................................CFC Kids is our children’s ministry that encompasses babies, toddlers, pre-school children and those kids in Primary school up to 10 years old. We are jealous for all our kids and are passionate about seeing them:• learn and understand the word of God and apply it to their lives

• actively engage in worshipping a living God and encountering the Holy Spirit

• serve God using the gifts He has given them and enable them to use the talents and skills they have developed for His glory.

We place a high value on fun and on creating an engaging environment.

WHAT WILL YOU BE INVOLVED IN?CFC Kids interns will be involved in a huge range of activities; here is a taster of some of them:

Sunday Service Ministries:On Sundays we run four different age specific ministries, tailored and planned for each group of children.

Kids Fun Night:This does what it says on the tin. Each Wednesday, we offer a variety of games, crafts and other activities to kids who get to hear about a Jesus who loves them.

Kids Fun Week Mission:Each year we reach out to our community, providing an incredible week of fun, friendship and foundational teaching. We have seen hundreds of kids give their lives to Jesus over the last few years and kids bringing the rest of their families to church.

Messy Church:Kids are messy and often family can be messy too. Messy church provides a platform for families to ‘do church’ in a relaxed informal yet uniquely creative environment that is open to anyone.

Kids Fun Weekend:Weekends away are often a catalyst for growth of friendships, understanding of the bible and opportunities to encounter God in a real way. These times are a great place for kids to be themselves, grow in God and explore their spiritual gifts.

Schools’ Work:Schools give us opportunity to deliver presentations in large assemblies, to more relational group Scripture Union classes, these provide us with an awesome platform to access kids who have never heard the stories of Jesus

Page 10: The Catalyst Academy 2014-15

CFC YOUTH (11-18)......................................................................................CFC Youth is a vibrant part of the CFC community that sees our young people as disciples in training not disciples in waiting. We are passionate about young people experiencing God’s love and the power of His Holy Spirit and in turn seeing this very same love and power impact and transform communities, through them. One of our values as a church is ‘relational Christianity’ and this forms the bedrock of our incarnation model of youth ministry. Our desire is that young people are integrated into everything we do as a church from welcome to worship. However, it does not stop there. We have a number of programmes designed to positively invest in, impact and educate young people through a relational model of youth ministry.

WHAT WILL YOU BE INVOLVED IN?Our two programmes cover 10-13 year olds and 14-18 year olds. These range from our weekly corporate worship celebration at youth church on a Sunday and our Seven service to connect groups mid-week. We also have a variety of weekly social and community outlets and throughout the year a range of outreach activities, events, courses, trips, and team mission opportunities. As an intern within the CFC youth department you will be guaranteed variety, invested in and given opportunities to be stretched and grow in leading and developing youth ministry. You will serve and lead alongside staff and a phenomenal volunteer team. We won’t lie to you - the year will be challenging and busy with hopefully lots of highs and only some lows but we believe there is no greater reward in leading, serving and sharing with the next generation and no better way to spend a year than in CFC Youth.

CFC YOUNG ADULTS (18-30)......................................................................................Catalyst is our Young Adult’s movement at CFC. We are a Christ-centred community who seek to understand the times and shape the future through servant leadership and creative mission. These three values are at our core:......................................................................................A Christ-centred community:Welcoming young adults into a Christ- centred community which is outward focussed and spirit enabled.

Servant leadership:Discipling young adults who will serve with enthusiasm and compassion wherever God leads them.Creative mission:Releasing a new generation of pioneers who engage creatively with the culture they find themselves in to share the love of God.......................................................................................

WHAT WILL YOU BE INVOLVED IN?Catalyst Interns will help shape and deliver the following Catalyst ministries:

Connect:Connect is at the very heart of Catalyst. Each week young adults meet together in small groups to do life together, study God’s word and support each other in their day-to-day. Connect is a place to learn about God, pray, eat, laugh and live.

Collective:Every month our Connect Groups join together as The Collective. The Collective reminds us that we are part of something bigger – the wider community of young adults and God’s mission to the world.

Academy:The Catalyst Academy exists to equip the next generation of educational, entrepreneurial and emerging cultural leaders. We want to help you to discover and develop your gifts so that you can excel in leadership and ministry.

Retreat:Every year Catalyst goes on a weekend retreat to a beautiful setting in Ireland. This is always one of the highlights of the year as we spend focussed time in community.

Seven:Our Sunday evening service is the service of choice for the majority of our young adults at CFC. Here we get to use our gifts to honour God and serve our community.

Alpha in the Pub:At Catalyst our deepest desire is for people to come into a personal relationship with Jesus – Alpha in the Pub is just one way we can help people on this journey.

New Developments:We are currently looking at planting a CFC multi-site church in the heartland of our University Quarter – which will require developments in student ministries.

CFC VISUAL COMMUNICATIONS TEAM......................................................................................Media is vitally important to CFC and touches almost every aspect of how we present the gospel to the world in corporate settings. Our media team use technology to serve the church, working in print, online and film to deliver key messages in our main services, conferences, and other events as well as through the CFC website and social media. Our media team is led by Mark Case, CFC member and director of Northern Ireland’s leading brand and digital media consultancy, Whitenoise, who together with Adam Smyth (film and animation) and Matt Shanks (social media and web) deliver all of CFC’s visual communications. An internship in our media team is not for the faint-hearted! DON’T TAKE OUR WORD FOR IT...

The Catalyst Academy has provided first-class teaching. I feel encouraged and better equipped to be an influencer for God - in living, in loving and in leading. Kathryn Beck

My time in the Catalyst Academy has been crucial in going deeper into leadership, mentoring and ministry. God gifts us with individual talents and gifts, undeniably, but to pour into those gifts with structured and deep training like the Catalyst Academy provides is invaluable. We can do things well, or we can be properly trained and do them at a much higher level. I would recommend this training to anyone with a desire to mentor, lead, train or be in ministry wholeheartedly. Tamara Doory

During my time on the Catalyst Academy I have enjoyed sharing opinions and learning and feeding from others. The personal attention given to how I can grow in my faith and in my identity as an influencer is very encouraging. Jonny Erskine

Page 13: The Catalyst Academy 2014-15

...IT’S THE

REALDEAL

For me the Catalyst Academy has been a process of learning and discovering Throughout this year I have learnt so much about myself and also deepened my relationship with God, daily recognising his amazing grace. I have been able to reawaken and direct the dreams which God has placed on my heart and rediscovered my passion for specific ministries. Zara Millar

The Catalyst Academy has been an amazing experience! At this crossroads in my life I have the opportunity to put into practice the things I previously just learned in books. I have been transformed, not only in my faith but in my practical skills, gifts and talents, some of which I didn’t know I had! It’s really a life changing experience and even better that it’s in Belfast!Becca Richards

The Catalyst Academy has been an exciting year where we have been challenged to explore what God has for us and develop skills to help us fulfil our potential.Mike Ferguson
