Law Alumni Network Look Who’s Talking Series Hosted by Nick Hughes (BCom LLB 92), Managing Director and Group COO, UBS Australasia. James Eyers (BCom

LLB 01), Managing Editor, Financial Review Capital magazine, will interview speakers Stephen Minns (BCom LLB 81), Chairman, Australia of King & Wood Mallesons and Michael Rose (BA LLB 85) Chief Executive Partner of Allens. The globalisation of Australia's major law firms has been a phenomenon in the last three years. Australian firms are expanding through acquisitions, mergers and strategic alliances. Why has this flurry of activities happened

now? Why have law firms chosen different models of expansion? How will the globalisation of Australian law

firms affect the legal services profession and business in general? Hear first-hand from two UNSW Law Alumni about the different approach adopted by their firms, and how it has affected their firms, their staff and their clients. Tuesday 21 May UBS AG, Level 16, Chifley Tower, 2 Chifley Square, Sydney RSVP online: http://lwt2013.eventbrite.com.au

Justice Talks: The Human Sides of Law

In this lecture, the Hon Keith Mason, former President of the NSW Court of Appeal will concentrate upon the ways in which our common humanity affects what really happens when people, the law and justice intersect. The rule of law (and not of lawyers) is not a myth. It is however a multi-faceted concept aspiring to fairness,

consistency, factual truth, civility of discourse, and fidelity to statute and common law. Our system of government may be divinely instituted but its functioning depends on human (sometimes all too human) actors in

their roles as witnesses, police, jurors, legislators, lawyers, judges and academics. Tuesday 7 May 18:30-19:30 Cocktail reception starts at 6pm. Tyree Room, John Niland Scientia Building.

Register here.

Australian Careers Law Fair In 2013, the UNSW Law Society is proud to again host its annual Australian Careers Law Fair on Monday 6 May. At the Law Fair, you can expect to meet representatives from the leading law firms in Australia. If you have any questions, contact [email protected] or click here for more information.

NSW Bar Association Mock Trial

The NSW Bar Association is seeking volunteers to act as witnesses and participate in a mock trial. The Bar Practice Course for new barristers culminates in a mock trial on Saturday, 25 May in the Supreme Court. The trials will be presided over by Judges from the Supreme and District Courts. Volunteers will be required to do some preparation before the conference with the barrister (conference means a 'meeting') by which time they will have to be familiar with the statement that the character has made in the proceedings (which will be provided). It may be that during the conference the barrister will ask them questions, the answers to which they may not find in the material provided - if this is the case they can embellish the material provided to them, in order to answer

those questions. If anyone is interested in volunteering as a witness they will need to be available on either of the following dates: Monday 20 May 16:30-18:00 (for a conference with a barrister) AND Saturday 25 May 2013, 10:00 OR Monday 20 May 16:30-18:00 (for a conference with a barrister) AND Saturday 25 May 2013, 12pm If students are available on 20th and 25th May they will need to send through their full name, postal address, phone numbers and preferred time on Saturday 25 May to Irene Puntillo at [email protected].
