With the body of a horse, and the head and chest of a man, centaurs were known for their loud and wild characters. However, coming from Greek beliefs, these amazing creatures weren’t always described as frightening. The honesty of a centaur shines through not only from the early stories, but also from Firenze, a trustworthy and loyal friend to Harry Potter.

It was believed that centaurs lived in the land of Thessaly, a place past the borders of men. However, as magical as these creatures may seem, the tale of the centaur might also have a base in reality.

In the forest of Thessaly, men would sit on horseback and hunt bulls. Perhaps their skilful riding made it seem as though the rider and the horse were one, single being. afShan Sattar

uniTEd wE sTandThese two friends are as happy as they can be. No toy, no game or any other form of entertainment can be seen in the picture. We see two little children, happy to be in each other’s company. This goes to show how important people in our lives really are. Yes there will be problems in life and yes, we sometimes will end up hurting the people we love. But no matter what, nothing is more precious than knowing that your friends or the people in your family are smiling this wide, because of you. Munira fidai

Do you who Mickey Mouse is? Of course you do! This funny little animal was one of the first cartoon character ever, and still one of the best! Everybody knows Mickey because he was born almost 86 years ago. That’s almost as old as your grandpa! But what we don’t know is who made this mouse in the first place, for they deserve a clap. Mickey was made by two men – Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks.

Walter Elias, or Walt Disney, was a very talented man. He was a businessman, cartoonist, animator, producer, director, showman,

screenwriter and a voice actor. He made the The Walt Disney Company and won seven Emmy Awards. Even better, he is the man behind Disneyland. Amazing isn’t he?

Ub Iwerks was great too. This man was a two-time Academy Award winning American animator, cartoonist, character designer, inventor, and special effects technician.

It was because of these men that we see cool cartoons today. They may not be with us now, but their little Mickey shall keep us laughing forever.

Most of us here are familiar with the word building board game “Scrabble.” In the game, we have to ,make words on the board using letters. But, we aren’t interested in scrabble, but we want to introduce you to another board game named “Upwords.”

This game is a lot like scrabble but has different rules. The game allows you to change words through piling letter pieces on top of each other and the player

gets points based on the number of letters replaced. However, while stacking letters, one letter from the earlier word must remain unchanged.

Playing upwards can be fun, because of the 3D feeling and at the same time can help improve your English. “Upwords” is available at “Lavender” store in Gulshan-2 and is priced roughly around Tk850. Try it out for yourself. Syed azraf zaMan

Well, it’s time to go back to school and what better way to brighten up those boring school days and school books with some beautiful and cute bookmarks! Not only will they make your books look colourful, you can also use them to mark your chapters. And even more, you can use them on your favourite storybooks and never again will you have to remember which page you were on.

What you need• Paperclips• Different coloured fancy

buttons• Superglue

InstructionsApply a tiny amount of superglue on the bottom of the button and attach it to the end of the paperclip. Let it sit there for a few minutes, careful to keep the paperclip in place, until the glue dries. Ta-da! And it’s done!

BEnd a BonEI’m sure every one of you has heard of breaking a bone, but have you ever heard of “bending” a bone?! I’m sure not, but today we tell you the secret of bending a bone!

You will need• A jar large enough to fit a chicken

bone• A chicken bone - a leg or

“drumstick” bone works best• Vinegar

What to do1. Have a nice chicken dinner and

save a bone. Leg bones work best.2. Rinse off the bone in running water

to remove any meat 3. Notice how hard the bone is -

gently try bending it. Like our bones, chicken bones have a mineral called calcium in them that makes them hard.

4. Put the bone into the jar and cover the bone with vinegar. Put the lid on the jar to cover it - let it sit for three days.

5. After three days remove the bone. It should feel different. Now rinse it off and try bending it again. Is it really a rubber bone?

How It WorksVinegar is considered a mild acid, but it is strong enough to dissolve away the calcium in the bone. Once the calcium is gone, there is nothing to keep the bone hard - all that is left is the soft bone tissue. Now you know why your mom is always trying to get you to drink milk - the calcium in milk goes to our bones to make them stronger. With some effort, you can really get the bone to bend! faizah aziz

MAGiC TriCkS

What You Need• A sheet of blank paper• 3 pencils

Instructions:1. Tear the paper neatly along the

folds so that you have three equal sized sheets. The sheets look the same but only you will notice that the middle part is ragged on both sides. Remember to look for this.

2. Give the centre sheet and a pencil to a friend. Ask them to write an alphabet on it and fold it into thirds. Tell your friend to remember their alphabet.

3. Give the other two sheets and

pencils to two other friends. Ask them to write alphabets and to fold the sheets too.

4. Collect the papers and jumble them up.

5. Pull out the first friend’s sheet.

You’ll know which one it is as it’s the only piece with two ragged edges. Hold it up and ask your friend if it is their alphabet. Watch the surprise on their faces!

Lyra and Kent were bought a few months ago. Apart from their love for food, they are crazy about each other. They hate anybody touching them. It is very hard to catch either one of them when they are out of their cage.

Lyra and Kent are let out of their cage from morning till evening, and the happy hoppers enjoy their time hopping around the house.

One morning my cousin came for a visit to meet the “love rabbits.” Seeing them run around made my little cousin feel like holding one of them!

After a long run, my cousin got hold of Lyra. He was stroking Lyra when suddenly he dropped her on the floor. I ran towards the injured rabbit and on asking my cousin why he threw my rabbit down, he answered that Kent had bit his

toe! Looking at the two rabbits, we saw

Kent nudging Lyra. I figured that Kent had gotten anxious about my cousin holding Lyra and so he bit his toe! It was very cute and adorable! What surprises me is that even after they get so much affection from us, they still prefer each other’s love.
