Parafrase: Eventhough high CO2 could result in a significat reduction of aerobic mesophilic bacteria for leafy vegetables such as spinach, this treatment also resulted in off-odors and loss of tissue integrity. By adding the super atmospheric O2 to the packaged cover with barrier films could prevent the tissue injury and also reduce the microbial growth (Allende et al., 2004).
