Senior Pastor Call Committee UpdateWhile Steps 4-6 take place with the Southeastern District, the Senior Pastor Call Committee (SPCC) continues to meet with people in the congregation in preparation for Steps 7 and 8. They held Listening Tours after each worship service on the second weekend of November and also met with the Staff of Prince of Peace, with the Worship Team and then, in two settings, with Youth during Sunday School and a small group meeting. Every one of those visits was to listen and to learn what the group wanted the SPCC to know about their hopes for a Senior Pastor and questions they would like to ask the candidates. An interview coach also met with the SPCC to help formulate questions to elicit responses that are useful in providing a clear picture of the candidate. The SPCC thanks all of the members who have asked questions and have given feedback, thoughtful insights, and encouragement. Keep doing that! We all can be engaged in the call process as we spend time in prayer, in reading God’s Word and reflecting on it, in quiet thought, in seeking God’s face in this time of waiting. “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.” Psalm 27:14 Please continue to join us and the Prince of Peace Prayer Committee in praying for Holy Spirit's guidance and patience for the SPCC, the congregation, our staff, our Vacancy Pastor, our Circuit Visitor, and our next Senior Pastor. As always, questions or concerns can be shared at any time with BoSL at [email protected] or at a monthly BoSL Sunday Listening Forum.

Hypothermia 2018 LET’S GO LOCAL!POP Hypothermia Week is December 23-30, 2018

Prince of Peace has been partnering with FACETS to serve our homeless neighbors for 9 years. Each year we open our church home for one week to those who need a warm, safe place to sleep. The shelter opens at 5:00pm each evening. Guests receive a hot meal prepared by our Meal Teams and enjoy fellowship with our members. We also provide breakfast the next morning and a sack lunch to go. The shelter closes at 7:30 am each morning. We typically serve over 250 guests throughout the week. This year we are allowing guests to stay all day on Christmas Day so we will also need volunteers to come in throughout the day. How You Can Serve? Shelter Volunteers make the week happen and jump in wherever needed. Each day has four shifts: Shift 1 - 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm Shift 2 - 8:00 pm to 12:01 am Shift 3 - 12:01 am to 4:30 am Shift 4 - 4:30 am to 7:30 am Youth Volunteer Teams support the Sunday Set up and daily cleaning of the fellowship hall and sleeping rooms. Food Donations: The week depends on the

generosity of those who donate the food needed for our guests. Choose a few or many items on the list and deliver on the date noted. [email protected]

Prince of Peace Concert Series December 16 | 4pm Prince of Peace Christmas Concert // April 27 | 8pm Oh My Son // May 16 | 7:30pm HIMnals Blessings Concert Prince of Peace is excited to announce a new concert series featuring both outside music groups and our own music ensembles. The series brings us an opportunity to share wonderful music with both our congregation and members of our community. Our Annual Christmas Concert is the next featured event in our concert series. On December 16th at 4pm you are invited to come enjoy traditional and contemporary Christmas music to kick of the season. You won’t want to miss it! Please bring friends and nieghbors!

April 27th at 8pm, POP presents Oh My Son. Oh My Son is an Opera Tableaux written by the Spanish composer Marcos Galvany. The work is in the style of Handel’s Messiah with Chorus, Soloists, and Orchestra. Adapted from the Bible’s accounts of the Nativity and Passion in the four Gospels, Oh My Son tells the story of Jesus of Nazareth through a series of short scenes or tableaux. The opera emphasizes the humanity and emotions of each character and reminds us that while we most often hear the narratives from a divine point of view, all of the individuals in the accounts are very much human, facing deeply human struggles. Our final concert of the season is our Annual HIMnals blessings concert on May 16th at 7:30pm. Works will include the group’s favorite Anthems from HIMnals and songs from Living Water. [email protected]

Mission Central UpdateWhat a blessing to receive your special gift of love for the work that God has called us all to do! You understand that you can’t go to these lands of darkness but you can help to send someone in your place! So many just don’t "get it" and understand that because so many don’t realize that these dear missionaries are responsible for finding their own prayer partners and support. Without special "called" friends like you, we couldn’t send these missionaries and keep them on the Lord‘s mission field!! God will use your gift in a very, very special way to tell so many who have never heard the Savior's Name! Thank you so, so, so much for your gift of love for the work of our dear Lord Jesus!

What a joy and blessing to receive your gift of love totaling $54,000 to help with Christ's Care for Children in Kenya. We thank God for your congregation and what they have done. Think of the number of children and people who will be in heaven one day to thank you for providing this gift of love. It’s the greatest gift you could have sent!

Prince of Peace Lutheran School “The Artist Within Me”Last month, Prince of Peace Lutheran School hosted an art workshop for teachers from the surrounding preschools. The workshop was entitled "The Artist Within Me" and was led by Bonnie Hughes. Bonnie Hughes is the Kindergarten Art Specialist at Prince of Peace Lutheran School and also teaches a two year old Preschool Class and is our school’s Curriculum Coordinator. This workshop awarded teachers four hours of continued education and focused on process art. Sixteen teachers from area schools attended. It was a wonderful way to reach out to other preschools, to be in fellowship with them and to learn and share ideas. In focusing on the creative thinking piece as it relates to art education, we feel process oriented art is the vehicle that best stimulates creative thinking and the many other higher level thinking skills, such as curiosity, problem solving, imagination, and innovation, that are sought after and celebrated as our children grow.

Getting Ready for a BirthdayThe Children in our Preschool and Kindergarten Classes are getting ready for a birthday, Jesus’ Birthday! Through songs, stories, art, dramatic play, and worship times they will experience the true meaning of Christmas. Each year the classes create a different and unique Bethlehem Stable. Through process art activities, the children will help create the materials used in the building of the stables. Teachers will provide simple costumes and props that will help children to “become” the characters and to vividly re-enact the Nativity Story. The stables are really “faith places.” When children play and act things out, they become real and important to them. We always look forward

to this time of year when children act out the true and real story of Jesus, God’s Son born in Bethlehem. This is real. This is true. This is faith. The greatest blessing to the faculty and staff at Prince of Peace is the honor and wonder of being with the Lord’s littlest messengers and their families at this time of year. Every day their joyous faces and their excited voices proclaim as clearly as any “Gloria” that the Lord Jesus is coming. His birthday is Christmas and we can hardly wait! Christmas Blessings, Cindy Deatherage, Principal

Flags During WorshipDuring Saturday evening worship services, we have introduced worship flags. Flags are used for different reasons in worship service. The main reason is that it is a kinetic and visual form of praise and worship. Singing is an auditory form

and lifting up of hands is another visual form of worship. In 2 Samuel 6:14 -16, David danced before the Lord with all his might and all of the house of Israel brought the Ark of the Lord up with shouting and the sound of the horn. Worship flags are another extravagant and God-honoring way, for us to express our love for God during worship. Psalms 9:1, “I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart . . .” In John 12, Mary found an extravagant way to worship the Lord; she anointed His feet with expensive oil and wiped them with her hair. Jesus loves the creative expressions of worship and love.If you have any questions regarding worship flags or want to learn the other reasons, reach out to M.E. Sorenson, [email protected] Flag practice is held on the 1st and 3rd Sundays, 4:30-5:30 p.m.; and is open to anyone who wants to try a different form of worship.

Savings Gifts That Build ChurchesThe Lutheran Church Extension Fund, is a "ministry through investment" organization that provides loans and services to LCMS churches and schools. Loans are made possible through the support of LCMS members who invest their money in LCEF and earn a competitive interest rate. LCEF's purpose is to build relationships with LCMS ministries and individuals by being an exceptional provider of financial resources and related support services so that the Great Commission can be fulfilled. Did you know? Prince of Peace was constructed with 2 LCEF building loans. And LCEF gives back to Prince of Peace an annual rebate (more than $11,000 this year), based on the number of members of our congregation who have an LCEF investment account. The more members who have an LCEF account, the greater our annual rebate. So, everyone is encouraged to please consider participating by investing in this most worthwhile ministry arm of our church. Other nearby examples of LCEF's ministry in action are PoP daughter congregations, Our Savior's Way in Ashburn and Vine & Branches Lutheran Church in Aldie, which have both benefited greatly through LCEF building loans.
