welcome to soonervision and the university of oklahoma athletics department.
We are excited that you will be a member of SoonerVision during the upcoming
school year. Please know that we view you as an integral part of our operation and
want you to take pride in working for one of the most recognized and respected
athletics programs in the country.
The pages that follow contain information you need for a successful experience
in our offi ce. Please do all that you can to become familiar with our policies and
procedures, including the following:
• We work long hours and must be diligent in our eff orts. At the same time, work
minus any element of fun is drudgery. It is possible to be productive and to enjoy
ourselves all at the same time. That is the environment we want in our offi ce.
• Use this experience to build good habits in the area of presentation, organization
and attitude. Dress and behave professionally (you get just one chance to make a
fi rst impression), work ahead of your deadlines, and be positive.
• Be competitive and productive in your work. Many people do a good job; only one
does the best. Strive to do things better than they are done at other schools.
• Respect the feelings of others. We’re around each other frequently, sometimes
in tight quarters and sometimes when stress runs a little high. Maintain some
fl exibility in your thinking and keep our work in its proper perspective.
• Take advantage of experienced staff members. In other words, learn as much as
you can. Delve into the software and work as many diff erent events as you can fi t
into your schedule.
You will notice that we are a large offi ce. There are many demands on our time and
attention. While it may appear that we are unavailable at times, we are very much
interested in you. Interrupt full-time staff members any time a need arises and
please communicate your thoughts freely. We cannot praise or fi x the things we do
not know about.
Thanks again for being part of our staff . Have a great year!

Orientation Summary
Access info Online
You can access information about SoonerVision online by visiting www.SoonerSports.com
and clicking on the department tab at the top, and then selecting SoonerVision on the
drop down menu.
http://www.soonersports.com/school-bio/sooner-vision.html
On this page, you can access a list of the full-time staff at SV. You can also click under-
neath Production Assistants, on the “click here” link to access more information pertaining
to the students.
http://www.soonersports.com/school-bio/sooner-vision-students.html
On this link, you will see another list of full timers with complete contact information and
a link to a PDF at the bottom of the page, which contains cell numbers and E-mails for the
entire staff at SoonerVision.
This information is purposefully hard to fi nd on the web site so the public does not have
immediate access to our contact info, but is provided to you in case you need to get in
contact with a SV employee. There should never be a situation where you are unable to
contact a SV employee about running late or being unable to attend an event.
In addition, you can access our event schedule, which is updated daily, at the top of the
page to fi nd out what positions are available to work at upcoming events. A description
of crew positions is also linked at the top of the page.
If you are interested in signing up for an event, please look for a position listed as TBD and
E-mail Craig Moran at [email protected]. These spots are fi lled on a fi rst
come/fi rst serve basis. They are also assigned based on your experience in that particular
area.
Generally, the positions that require the least experience are listed more towards the bot-
tom or are label as an “assist” position. You are also eligible to shadow a position in order
to better prepare you for a future event.
Where is SoonerVision
SoonerVision has a presence at nearly every athletic venue on campus. The main offi ce is
located in the southwest corner of the football stadium on the second fl oor.
Inside SoonerVision’s main area, you will fi nd offi ces for full-time staff members, student
work stations, Studio A and Control Rooms A and B. In addition, Studio B is located downstairs just north of the stair case and elevators.
In addition to the football stadium, SoonerVision also holds Big Screen productions on-site at McCasland Field House (volleyball, wrestling and men’s gymnastics), at Lloyd Noble
Center (men’s and women’s basketball and women’s gymnastics), L. Dale Mitchell Park (baseball) and Marita Hynes Field (softball).
Offi ce Requirements
As a student PA, you are required to meet at least one of the following criteria on a weekly basis:
1 – Complete a minimum of two offi ce hours. This does not include working in the control room or studio for a broadcast, but does include productions (green screen shoot,
on-site shoots, etc..).
2 – Work an event (on site or in studio or control rooms).
3 – Attend a PA training.
4 – Administer a PA training.

Gmail Calendars and E-mail
A majority of our correspondence with students takes place with Gmail accounts. If you do not have a Gmail account, please create one before your fi rst day of work at SoonerVi-
sion.
If you are logged into your Gmail account, you will also see the main “Home Games” calendar displayed on the SV student page online. This is one of several calendars shared
with you via your Gmail address. Others include:
- Away Games
- PA Training Schedules
- Productions
PA Trainings
There are several training sessions made available to students via the “PA Training Schedule” which is shared with your Gmail account. These sessions are divided up by experi-
ence (Basic, Intermediate, Advanced and Professional) and can be signed up for by contacting the PA or full timer that is administering the session. Generally, each training ses-
sion has three spots available and the tend to fi ll up quickly. Unless otherwise noted, please do not E-mail [email protected] if you want to sign up for a training.
Please contact the individual hosting the session.
If you are the PA hosting the training session, please be sure to have the required amount of experience for that particular area. For example, a Basic camera training should be
administered by a PA holding Intermediate experience or higher in that area, an Intermediate training by a PA with Advanced experience, and an Advanced session by a PA with
Professional Experience.
Documents Accessed via Gmail
In addition to calendars, you can also access various documents via your Gmail account. These documents include your Development Chart and the SoonerVision “To-Do List.”
On the SV To-Do List, you will fi nd various projects assigned by individuals that will give you information on what software is needed, what sport is involved and a due date. An
example of this document is below:
Your Development Chart will help track your progress as you gain more experience in SoonerVision and work towards advancing towards promotions.
All PA’s start at minimum wage, but are eligible to be promoted to a Senior Production Assistant ($9/hr) and a Production Specialist ($12/hr).
You will be held completely accountable for tracking your personal progress on your Development Chart. When accessing this document, you will see there are 12 areas in which
you can train and gain valuable resume experience.
Those areas include the following and are graded on a scale based on introductory (1), basic (3), intermediate (5), advanced (7) and professional (10).
1. Producing
2. Directing
3. Technical Directing
4. EVS Operations
5. Tape Operations
6. Production Audio
7. Production Graphics
8. Video Editing
9. Engineering Operations
10. Big Screen Operations
11. Camera
12. Graphic Design

Development Chart Continued ...
A student that is listed as a 10 is regarded by our department as a professional that could fi nd a job in the “real world” right now.
An example of the chart is featured below:
In order to advance up the scale on each of the 12 areas, a PA must complete various tasks, attend trainings and work events. Those tasks are then logged by clicking on the
respective area listed on the tabs at the bottom of the page.
When you click on the tabs at the bottom, a detailed list of requirements for that area will appear. For example, if you click on the Camera tab, this list will appear:
2012-13 Soonervision Handbook | 9
You will work your way from level 1 on the way to the bottom to level 10 if that is an area that interests you.
In order to reach level 1 in Camera, you need to complete four tasks and then mark the date you completed those items down in the columns on the right. Once you have the
four dates entered into the No.1 row, you can click back to your chart and see that your advancement in the Camera skill area is highlighted with a green progress bar.
While we encourage you to diversify your abilities and try something from each of the areas, we also understand some of you are interested in certain positions. However, you
will need to advance yourself in several areas in order to reach the next level of Senior PA or Specialist.
You will see that the scale breaks down the levels required for PA’s to move up to the status of Senior or Specialist. Once you have obtained that status, your current position
highlighted on the right will change accordingly. In the example below, the PA has earned a level 7 in technical directing, a level 5 in tape operations, level 3 in graphics and a
level 10 in camera operations. In the lower right, highlighted in green, the current position has now changed to Senior Production Assistant.
Once you have reached the next status on your chart, you will need to E-mail Craig Moran ([email protected]) and he will review your chart with the rest of the
full-time staff . Once we double check that you have completed all the appropriate items, you will be eligible for the promotion.

physical check at Buchanan Hall.
Offi ce Hours A. The offi cial offi ce hours are 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, although actual

including working events. Hours worked over 30 hours will not be compensated.
C. Lunch Hour — Paid students are required to clock out when going to lunch and
lunch hours should be considered when building a work schedule.

you have no business working in this department.
SV Server (P: Drive)The P Drive is the primary server on which offi ce images, video and documents are stored.
Please check with a full timer before fulfi lling a request from outside our offi ce for items
stored on the network.
Each student has an individual folder on the P drive, but it contains work-related projects.
Once a student has completed his or her tenure in the offi ce, that folder is deleted. Therefore,
nothing of historical signifi cance should be stored in the student folder.
