FRESH STARTu Since the start of Big 12 play, the Sooners have seen their production from 3-point range increase dramatically. OU ranks first in the league with a .420 (29-for-69) 3-point shooting percentage. In non-conference play, OU posted .314 clip from beyond the arc.
u Through the first four Big 12 games, OU ranks second in scoring (82.2) and third in field goal percentage (.446), scoring margin (+10.0) and assists (16.8). Defensively against Big 12 foes, the Sooners are second with 33 blocked shots (8.3 per game) and third in field goal percentage defense, holding opponents to a .389 mark.
LOOKING AT LITTLEu Peyton Little is closing in on a pair of milestones for her OU career. The redshirt senior needs just five points to become the 32nd player to score 1,000 points at Oklahoma. She is also just two 3-pointers away from passing Stacey Dales for tenth in career 3-pointers made.
u Over the last four games, Little leads the Sooners in scoring with 16.3 points per contest (fifth in the conference in scoring) and has played 39.5 minutes per game - the highest average among Big 12 players in league action.
u Little won OU's second Big 12 Player of the Week honor of the season on Jan. 2 by averaging 20.0 points, 5.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists, helping OU to double-digit wins over Kansas and TCU. The Abilene, Texas, native chipped in 15 points and set a season high with eight rebounds at Kansas. In OU’s victory over TCU, Little finished with a season-best 25 points on 9-of-15 shooting.
ORTIZ FINDS HER RHYTHMu Gabbi Ortiz has sparked OU's offense over the last two games, knocking down seven 3-pointers. Against Kansas State, Ortiz finished a perfect 4-of-4 from beyond the arc, tying a Coale era record for most 3-pointers made in a game without a miss. Against conference opponents, Oritz is 8-of-14 from deep and her .571 3-point shooting percentage is tied for the second-best clip in Big 12 play.
u Since the start of OU's Big 12 slate, Ortiz has continued to see her production increase. The Racine, Wis., native is averaging 11.3 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.0 assists over the last four games. Ortiz has combined to post 31 points in OU's last two contests, her most points scored in back-to-back games as a Sooner.
QUICK HITSu The Sooners are 8-0 this season and have won 29 straight games win posting a higher shooting percentage than their opponent. OU has also earned 25 consecutive victories (8-0 in 2016-17) when the Sooners win the rebounding and turnover battle against their competition.
u Through 16 games, the Sooners have nearly doubled their block total from this time last season. OU has logged 98 blocks (6.1 per game) thise season, which ranks sixth in Division I. The Sooners finished 136th in the nation a year ago with 112 blocked shots (3.4 per game). At this point last season, OU had just 52 blocks (3.3 blocks per game). The Sooners are also just 15 blocks away from breaking into OU's top-10 list for most blocks in a single season.
u OU's 18 points, six made field goals and .857 field goal percentage in overtime against Kansas State all set Coale era records. The win marked OU's first OT victory over a top-25 opponent since defeating Notre Dame in the NCAA Tournament on March 28, 2010 in the Sweet 16.
u Nancy Mulkey earned Big 12 and USBWA National Freshman of the Week Awards on Jan. 2 with 13 blocked shots in OU’s first two leagues games, while averaging 11.0 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. In her first career start at Kansas, Mulkey nearly finished with a triple-double, picking up career highs of 14 points, nine rebounds and seven blocks against the Jayhawks. She followed her performance by recording a team-high six blocks in against TCU in 16 minutes. Mulkey finished 4-of-5 from the field and scored eight points versus the Horned Frogs
u Maddie Manning's 10 steals against Portland State on Dec. 21 rank as the most by a Division I player in a single game this season and the most by an OU player in one game since 1996.
u The Sooners have been ranked in the AP Poll for 32 consecutive weeks (tied for the 10th-longest active streak in the country). OU has been ranked in the AP poll 252 times under Sherri Coale.
u Peyton Little needs five points to become the 32nd Sooner to score 1,000 points at Oklahoma.
UP NEXTu Oklahoma returns home on Saturday to host Texas Tech at 2 p.m. CT inside Lloyd Noble Center. The game will air live on Fox Sports Oklahoma. The Sooners have won 11 straight meetings against the Red Raiders.
