ADVENT IS HERE With this First Sunday of Advent the Church begins to celebrate the comingsof Jesus. There are three: his coming at the end of time, his coming on the first Christmas, and his coming this Christmas. As a just judge and as our Savior he will come at a time that we do not expect, since we do not know when the end of the world will occur. ADVENT IS HERE

With this First Sunday of Advent the Church begins to celebrate the “comings” of Jesus. There are three: his coming at the end of time, his coming on the first Christmas, and his coming this Christmas. During the first week of the season, our thoughts turn to his coming at the end of time. As a just judge and as our Savior he will come at a time that we do not expect, since we do not know when the end of the world will occur. And so we are always ready and on the watch so that we can “stand before the Son of Man“ with a good life and a record of loving service! Peace & Love,

CHRISTMAS CHOIR The music ministry is in need of singers for our Christmas Eve Masses on December 24 at 5:30 and 10:30. We es-pecially need tenors, basses and altos. Rehearsals will be on Wednesday evenings from 8:00 to 9:00 on Decem-ber 2, 9 & 16. Practice CDs will be available to aid in learning the music. Please contact Rita Manners at 429-6811 or [email protected].

WHAT’S IN A GODPARENT?

Choosing a godparent for a child is one of the most important decisions a parent makes for that child’s life! The Church’s hope is that a godparent will be a life-long example and companion for the child’s journey of faith. Much thought and prayer, then, is needed to pick the person(s) who will best fulfill that role. The Church requires that a godparent be a fully initiated Catholic through the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist; actively practicing our faith through weekly worship at mass and striving to live according to God’s way every day. It’s most helpful if the godparent lives nearby and can be a part of the child’s ongoing life, par-ticipating in important events all along the way. The Church requires only one godparent, alt-hough most couples prefer to ask two. If a Christian of another denomination is asked, they must be baptized and can serve only as a Christian witness, not as a god-parent. A Catholic who has not been confirmed cannot serve as either a Christian witness or a godparent—which makes sense when we understand the sacred re-sponsibility that Catholics accept. If you are expecting or have a newborn, you will want to make preparing for your child’s Baptism a high priority. Call Sister Cathy at 429-6811 for an initial inter-view. Then plan to attend our next group session on Wednesday, December 16, at 7:00 p.m. Godparents are asked to attend as well, since part of this meeting helps them understand their role and responsibilities.

CHRISTMAS ANGELS FOR THE FOOD CUPBOARD Thank you to all parishioners who have already taken paper angels from the baskets at the church entrances. This is the last chance for anyone to partici-pate. Most angels have a specif-ic request for a specific person, and others have toiletries or gro-cery store gift card requests. Please return the unwrapped gift with the angel attached no later than Monday, De-cember 7. Please be an angel and take an angel. Don’t Forget: The special wooden box on the Food

Cupboard table to the right of the main entrance is for gift

cards and postage stamps so they don’t get lost. Again,

please attach the angel somehow to the item so we can

match them up to the proper family.
