Maybe it’s just me, but it seems like we have been living
through a difficult stretch of time lately. Our Government, our
Church, and our own communities all experiencing the pain of
lack of unity, lack of trust, and the lack of good health leading
to loss.
Discord within the political realm is nothing new, but too many
of our leaders have become more concerned with their party’s
ideology than working together for the common good. Some
members of society choose to follow that example, rather than
recognizing the presence of God in all people.
Failures of Church leaders have caused significant pain and
disillusionment. Succumbing to their fears of losing power and
prestige, these leaders chose to protect their own self interests.
Such actions leave many people in the pews feeling helpless to
bring about needed change in systems and structures within the
Church.
Most difficult of all are our own struggles with personal loss.
The sickness and death of our family members and loved ones
is a pain which is unmatched by any other. We thank God for
the time we had to share our lives with them, but such time is
always too short and our hearts long for their presence.
There is no easy answer to solve the difficulties within our so-
ciety, our Church, and our personal lives. There is only faith in
a God whose love for us is unyielding. There is only hope in a
God whose dream for our future is one without tears. There is
only love for a God and one another which carries us through
to brighter days. Deacon Steve Tabor
