Paul Materu, ALCP Phone: 503.897.7424 E-mail: [email protected]WELCOME TO THE CATHOLIC COMMUNITIES OF “We celebrate Easter, the Victory of Life’’ “It was very early on the first day of the week, when Mary of Magdala came to the tomb...” These first words of the Easter Gospel make us recognize, even touch and almost breathe in the signs of death. There is silence over the whole earth, stillness, only a woman, alone and in fear, moves in the darkness of the night. All a sudden a voice came in from the angel to Mary, “ why do you seek the living among the dead? is the most frightening question for those people who left Jesus before or at his death on the cross. But it is the most re- assuring, salvific question ever asked in the human his- tory. It is easier to minister to Jesus who is dead and bur- ied than to minister to the living Jesus-resurrected Jesus- because it will cost our life! Jesus who rose after conquering sin and death does not require followers who only hear his words, or who want to be healed by him, or people who will leave him when trials, tribulations, sufferings and persecutions come their way. He needs those who will hear his words and produce fruits for his kingdom. Peter Chrysologus says: “To behold the resurrection, the stone must first be rolled away from our heats” and this is true because we need to allow Jesus to wash away our sins which block us from experiencing the resurrection of Jesus. If we have risen with Jesus then we too will be able to proclaim what we have seen, heard and touched from the beginning. For He is truly risen, Alleluia, Halleluia. Let us rejoice and be glad Alleluia. Wish you all happy Easter! Fr Paul
