13TH BIRTHDAY PARTY

The Nursery had a party on 6 March, which was to celebrate its thirteenth year. There was a birthday tea in which the children enjoyed pizza, sausages, special chocolate crispy cakes plus lots of other really yummy treats. They were also presented with a big delicious chocolate cake, which they helped to make and that had happy birthday candles glowing on top; they very much enjoyed eating it. There were also party games such as musical bumps and musical statues.

WORLD BOOK DAY

On 7 March we took part in the annual and National World Book Day. The children were asked to bring to nursery their favourite book as well as being given the fun opportunity to dress up as their favourite book character, which included the Gruffalo, Fireman Sam, Simba from the Lion King and the witch from ‘Room On A Broom’. The children did a marvellous job of dressing up and we thank you for sourcing their outfits.

ST PATRICKS DAY

On 18 March the nursery celebrated St Patrick’s Day. The babies were given a play area that had green collage items such as paper and fabric, which they could screw up and feel the textures. They played with green toys and had a visit from a very mischievous leprechaun; who throughout the day mischievously moved items, such as chairs, which he would turn upside down. However he was very secretive about his whereabouts and the task was given to the children to try and find him.

ST DAVIDS DAY

For St Davids Day the babies created Daffodil hats. The toddlers and pre-schoolers produced large paintings using bright yellow paint.

ROOM CHANGE

Recently the pre-school and toddler rooms have changed over. This is due to needing a bigger area as we now have a higher number of pre-school children on role.

FOCUS ON: THE BABY ROOM

This Term the babies are going to be looking at spring activities, linking in with a child focus topic of ‘In The Night Garden’. The babies are going to be using this to do a wall display with pictures they will produce. They will also be planting some spring bulbs outside our nursery window and will enjoy watching them grow.

As the weather hopefully improves there will be the opportunity for the babies to enjoy spending time outside on the decking where they will be able to use the equipment, which they will be able to climb over and through.

The babies will be creating England flags using paint and handprints to celebrate St George’s day.

For the last week of term we are hoping to have a visit from the local fire brigade as part of a project where the children will learn about people who help us.

EASTER ACTIVITES

To celebrate Easter the babies made big chick cards using yellow paint and fluffy yellow feathers, the final results were very cute.

The toddlers decorated eggs using bright and colourful paint and various techniques such as using rollers and stamps. They also created wonderful and unique Easter bonnets using a paper plate and colourful tissue paper. The children looked fantastic wearing their marvellous creations.

The pre-schoolers were given the delicious task of producing paintings using melted chocolate; they sneakily enjoyed eating the chocolate, which was painted around their mouths as well as on the paper. They also made funky rocking chicks from paper plates and colourful tissue paper.

There were also chocolate crispy nests, which all the children willingly partook in making and a fun Easter egg hunt around the nursery.

FOCUS ON: PRE-SCHOOL ROOM

For this term there will be a garden centre set up within the nursery for the pre-school children to help with their role play. They will be planting seeds and making some plant labels to go on their seed trays. They will also be learning about what seeds need to grow. The children will be drawing pictures in response to the experience. The project will then evolve into looking at insects that can be found in the garden. They will talk about patterns that can be found on insects, especially spots on a ladybird and stripes on a bee. The children will be using the digging area to discover different insects.

During this term there will be a range of cooking activities for the children which will include the ‘Hungry Caterpillar’ food tasting, fruit kebabs, popcorn and potato and turnip soup.

CLOTHING

As the weather is variable at the moment could you please make sure your child has suitable clothing for playing outside.

Could you also please provide a change of clothes for your child.

FOCUS ON: THE TODDLER ROOM

This term the toddlers are going to be taking part in a project based on the topic of ‘spring’. This will involve learning a spring themed rhyme, creating a fantastic spring display, planting some pretty flowers within the decking area and making beautiful fondant flowers. There will be an opportunity for the toddlers to use the nursery iPads, which will help them to find pictures of insects, tying in with the ‘spring’ project. The toddlers are going to be doing some music and movement sessions, which will be based on growing like a seed and moving like a caterpillar. They will also be doing some group sessions with the fun time activity bag.

To celebrate St George’s day, the toddlers will be working with the babies on making England flags using their handprints and red paint. The toddlers will be dressing up as doctors and firemen for a project based on ‘People Who Help Us’.
