Spratts 1st quarter page order

Last year we started going to a small town called 6 de Mayo to do a clinic for our missionary friends, Gary and Cheryl Kuney. Madonna had gone there before to help when they had a medical team come. Since we don’t do any rural clinics now, we offered to go there the last Friday of the month to see patients. Our last trip just over a week ago, we had 30 patients. With Gilma and Ma-donna both seeing patients, we finished early, so were back in Las Brisas by 2 P.M. 6 de Mayo is just off the main highway between Puerto Cortés and San Pedro Sula, but not far from Puerto Cortés. It takes a little less than an hour to drive there.

6 de Mayo Clinic

Last November, Madonna’s sister and her husband, Danny, had a booth for us at the International Conference On Missions. They were also helped by the minister of Madonna’s home church, Normanda, as well as by Steve Brown and his wife, Lynelle, and their two children, Alex and Lanie. Unfortunately, we did not choose a very good location, so we didn’t have as many visitors and sold very few books.

From 1994 to 2000, we were happy to have with us to help with the Church work, Raul and Ana Martinez de Calderon. Ana had worked with Madonna in the mountains and Raul was teaching there; they married in 1993. In 2000 they moved to Mexico near where Ana was born. She is the director of a nursing home there and Raul works with the church. Just before they left, they adopted a Honduran baby girl as they thought they would have no children. Right after they adopted her, Ana got pregnant, so now they have two daughters, Alejandra and Keina. They were in Honduras around Christmas time and stayed with one of Raul’s sisters in San Pedro Sula, and one day came to visit their friends in Las Brisas.

We rejoiced in February when eight people committed their lives to Christ and were baptized. Yenia, Alex, Edil, Dar-win, Virgen, Eda, Ana and Javier were those who were bap-tized in the baptistry just outside the Church. Edil and Darwin had been on the list for prayers for their salvation. One of our faithful members is Blasina Licona and of the eight baptized, five were her relatives. Yenia, Edil and Darwin are grandchil-dren. Virgen is married to another grandson and Alex is a great-grandson. We know her influence has been strong to help them come to Christ.

Hermana BlasinaRecently Hermana (sister) Blasina had her 70th birthday,

and they had a celebration for her at one of her son’s homes. The son, at the same time, celebrated his 50th birthday. Her-mana Blasina had 11 children, one of whom is deceased, and has 32 grandchildren, and 16 great-grandchildren. There could be more than that, but that is a close number.

Hermana Eva, who worked with Madonna in the clinic, has three children. Gilma, her oldest daughter is the nurse at the clinc; Eric is a son; and Bessie is her youngest daughter. In September Bessie gave birth to Hermana Eva’s first granddaughter. Gil-ma has two sons. Oscar works most of the year on a cruise ship, but was here for the birth of his daughter. Bessie some-times helps in the clinic as well as her mother and sister.

Every year at Christmas Madonna makes popcorn balls and we buy apples for those who attend the Christmas Eve Service. This year, some of the younger girls came to help. Madonna was happy to have the help of Quelin, her sister, Dina (daugh-ters of our minister), Nolvia and Angelita to make nearly 300 popcorn balls.

The days Madonna and her helpers were making popcorn balls, Madonna had a surprise visit from Carlos and Pati and the girls from the orphanage in Omoa. They came to sing some Christmas songs for Madonna. There were only a few left who were there when Madonna used to go check on them. Thanks to our friends, Chepa and Chela Canahuati, we had an extra box of apples. So when the girls finished singing they all were given an apple.

It seems that we have several families of bats in the at-tic of one of our guest houses. When we built the houses, I had no thought of the possibilities of a bats invasion. So, for ventilation, I put blocks with holes at each end of the houses. The picture shows me plugging the holes with cement. Our next project is to get rid of them.

Trying to get rid of termites is an almost im-possible task. But we are making progress. We lost quite a few books. The termites came up through the cement along the bottom of the walls. We mixed cement with a substance (not sand) and put it along the base of the walls and it seems to be working. Aside from books, most of the kitchen cabinets had to be replaced.
