The election of the Hong Kong Chief Executive is coming to its final stage with an outcome by this weekend. Over the past weeks, I think many Hong Kong people including those overseas have been stunned and agonized by the unfolding events over there. I hope more would join me in praying for a way out of this deadlock.

Whether the hardship is at the personal or community/social level, we would be after a leeway. On a personal basis, naturally we may resort to assistance from friend and family, or counsellor and church, as we realise we cannot cope with or handle the situation all by ourselves. Likewise a problematic community should also seek external advice and assistance. And if there happens to be a problem in between two communities then a third party could be involved in resolving the issue. So how about when there is a problem with a society or the world as a whole?

A society is formed by people. Any deadlock in a society eventually must be resolved by these concerned people. But the outcome would very much depend on their faith in bringing upon changes, their accord with the society as well their devotion to the society. To make a way out, Hong Kong people should make their voices heard so as to make an impact on those people who have the right to vote for the next Chief Executive.

Certainly some would regard the fundamental issue is not just an internal social matter but rather a Hong Kong – Chinese relational matter which makes local governance so difficult. Actually it was this sentiment prior to the 1997 handover that urged many Hong Kong people to immigrate.

Yet, if we believe there is a Creator of this world, then He will take charge of our human history. So whenever we feel there is a deadlock which we cannot get out of, we must leave it to the capable hands of our Creator.

As a Christian coming from Hong Kong, I will pray to God for leading Hong Kong out of the prevailing political deadlock.
