Jesus proceeded on his journey up to Jerusalem. - Luke 19:28
Last week, we met a crowd infected with contagious fury and ready to stone a woman for adultery. This week’s crowd is enthralled with the spectacle of Jesus’ entry into the Holy City. This crowd’s praise might be as mindless as the fury of the former. In fact, Luke’s account of the Passion gives us a crowd for almost every emotion. We have this jubilant crowd who praised Jesus as he entered Jerusalem, the tumultuous crowd who joined the religious leaders three times in demanding Jesus’ crucifixion, and a mournful crowd of women who lamented his fate as he walked the way of the cross.
In Luke’s Gospel, the only two who seemed to grasp and appreciate the meaning of the events of his passion were strangers. The first of them was one of Jesus’ fellow victims, the dying criminal who believed that even in his dying, Jesus was indeed coming into his kingdom. The other was the centurion who, upon seeing how Jesus died, glorified God and said, “Surely this man was righteous.” These declarations of faith, one presumably by a Jew adjudicated as a sinner, the other by a gentile, were a sign of Jesus’ fulfillment of his mission. More than the disciples, more than even the women, these two lead us toward understanding the saving effects of Jesus death.

First Communion Retreat —April 27th
Parents and students preparing for First Communion will meet
in the Parish Hall on Saturday, April 27 at 9:00 AM. We will be
reviewing for the sacrament, making banners and having a run
through practice in the church from 11:00 to 11:45 AM.
Parents will also have an opportunity to learn more about the Eucharist as the
source and summit of our Catholic Faith in a presentation by Paul Ditter in the fireside
room during the retreat. First Communion is on May 5th at the 8:00 AM or 10:30 AM
Masses. We need to know which one your family will be attending by the retreat day.
Prayer Request for Children and Youth in Sacramental Preparation
Please pray for the eighteen children and youth receiving sacraments this Spring. We have a
family whose children have been preparing for two years to enter the church at Easter Vigil.
They are Ricardo and Rosangel Bravo and they would appreciate your prayers.
We also have eleven children who are preparing for First Holy Communion on May 5th.
They are: Rebeca, Eleora, Ian, Spencer, Kathy, Bagner, Edward, Adan, Esmeralda, Shaila, and Katherine.
Our students in Confirmation who need your prayers are: Ximena, Hunter, Hayden, Bryan, and Nate. They
are on a Confirmation Retreat this weekend at the Father Bernard Youth Center in Mount Angel, OR.
They will be confirmed at St. Francis Catholic Church in Sherwood, OR on May 19th at the 5:00 PM Mass.
Spanish/English Interpreter Needed
We are hoping to make the presentation on the Eucharist more accessible to our parents through the
help of a bilingual volunteer from the parish who can meet with Paul Ditter prior to the retreat and help
him facilitate this talk for the parents at the First Communion Retreat on Sat. April 27th from 10:00 to
11:00 AM. If you are available please call Mary Ellen at the office to volunteer at 503-682-2332.

40 Cans for 40 Days Please Support Our Needy
Please support our annual Lenten 40 cans for 40 days program in support of
the needy in our community.
The program will run at all weekend Masses during Lent, finishing the weekend
prior to Easter.
This year we are continuing to encourage cash donations where possible ra-
ther than food, although we will accept food donations as we have in the past.
Cash donations have the advantage of better purchasing power allowing the purchase of specific foods needed and
significantly cuts down on the level of manual handling of food. Just like last year, one of our Knights has agreed to a
20% match on all cash donations. The Knights of Columbus will also match an additional $100 for every $500
collected, up to a maximum match of $500.
Thank you for your support of the Knights of Columbus Lenten drive for St. Vincent de Paul. They are
welcoming food and cash donations for the benefit of our society's mission. With your donations we
are confident that we can make a difference in the lives of many families...one at a time.
