OUR PARISH MISSION STATEMENT As Catholics in the Archdiocese of Saint Louis under the patronage of Saint Joseph, in communion with our Holy Father, Pope Francis, and Archbishop Rozanski, we are called by our Lord Jesus Christ to be His Church and live His Gospel. With joy, we strive to fulfill our Baptismal calling by fervent prayer and worship, sound teaching and sharing our faith, serving others and fostering unity in diversity. Guided by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to be responsible stewards of all God's gifts.

If you have been inactive in the practice of your Catholic Faith, we encourage you to come home. If you would like to speak with someone please do not hesitate to contact us.

If a previous marriage has kept you from receiving the Sacraments, we invite you to contact one of the priests. In many cases we can work with you toward a favorable solution so you can again receive the Sacraments in the Catholic Church.

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, The Surrender Novena by Fr. Dolindo Ruotolo is one of my very favorites. In fact, I’ve been praying it every day for a year and a half. It is the bomb, at least for me. Day 5 is my favorite day of the novena so I thought I would share it with all of you. Day 5 And when I must lead you on a path different from the one you see, I will prepare you; I will carry you in my arms; I will let you find yourself, like children who have fallen asleep in their mother’s arms, on the other bank of the river. What troubles you and hurts you immensely are your reason, your thoughts and worry, and your desire at all costs to deal with what afflicts you. O Jesus, I surrender myself to you, take care of everything! (10 mes) I hope you enjoy Day 5 of the novena as much as I do! Enjoy this blessed Advent season. May God bless you all. Yours in Christ, Fr. Dan Shaughnessy

5 THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT

Dynamic Catholic Alive! – Gaudete Sunday Rejoice! On Gaudete Sunday we remember the joy that is coming soon to the world: Jesus Christ. Where do we find our joy in life? If we seek it in anything but Christ, we are mission‐ing out because true joy comes from the knowledge that God loves us and has come to save us from sin and death. As John the Baptist preached, true joy comes by way of repentance. Our desire for holiness and pursuit of genuine freedom from sin and death inspire us to renounce evil and to open a place for Christ to enter our hearts, minds, and souls. When we are open to experiencing the grace of Christ, we can receive mercy, forgiveness, healing, consolation, and peace along with joy. (CCC 523‐524, 719‐720) archstl.org/dynamic

THIRD SUNDAY OF ADVENT 9

December 13, 2020

Third Sunday of Advent “Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” – 1 thessalonians 5:16 - 18

This scripture reading sums up Stewardship. “Rejoice always” means place your trust in God; He will provide all that you need. “Pray constantly” means prayer should be a running conversation with God throughout the whole day, every day. “Give thanks in all circumstances” means even in bad situations, thank God. Suffering a little bit helps build empathy for others in similar situations and shows our dependence on God.

#4 of Twelve Biblical Reasons for Wanting to Spend One Hour with Jesus In the Blessed Sacrament 4. When you look upon the Sacred Host, you look upon Jesus, the Son of God. "Indeed, this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks upon the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life. Him I will raise up on the last day." (Jn 6:40)
