Stewardship Corner ~
This weekend is the Solemnity of our Lord Jesus Christ, King of the Universe and with that we hear in the readings ways to inherit His kingdom. Jesus tells us that we will not inherit the kingdom through mistreatment of others. He also tells us something even more important: We will not inherit the kingdom through indifference. Everyday, I am sure, we each see at least one person in need, whether it be of a simple, “Hello,” or a meal, or a coat, or a room. Not all of us are able to provide these necessities for others, but simply walking by indifferently without taking any action is just the same as mistreating these people.
We should realize that the kingdom of heaven is here, present in our hearts with every simple act of love
that we take. As the saying goes, “Actions speak louder than words.” Another familiar phrase we hear as
Catholics, “Faith in action.” How do we make His Kingdom present to others if we ignore those in need?
If we turn our back because we are too busy, how are we really letting Jesus show through within us
and how are we treating Him? God is present in each of us, including those who are in need. Jesus tells
us so when he says, “That which you do for the least of these, you do for me.” Let us this week think
about simple ways we might increase our giving to those in need during the advent season and beyond
in preparation for Jesus’ birth. What greater gift is there to Him than right treatment of others and love
between persons?
Peace,
Kaitlyn Wiant
Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life;
whoever comes to me will never hunger,
and whoever believes in me will never thirst.”

Thanksgiving Day Mass at 9:00 am
Begin your holiday with the best possible start. Attend Mass and receive Holy Communion to thank God for His
goodness, especially the blessings with which He has enriched your life.
You are invited to bring your Thanksgiving bread to Church for a special blessing. As this blessed bread makes its
way from Sacred Heart to Thanksgiving tables near and far, our “giving thanks” will be made all the more meaningful.
Pastor’s Corner ~
Happy “Eucharist”! That’s my way of wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. “Eucharist,” in Greek, does mean “thanksgiving” after all. Many families have the tradition of publicly recounting the things for which they are thankful before diving into the Thanksgiving meal. Several years ago, because I was unable to get home to Cleveland for the holiday, I was able to enjoy Thanksgiving with friends of mine in the area. They have five kids ranging in age from three to nineteen. At the time, one was in second grade and when it came to be his turn to acknowledge his gratitude he said that he was most thankful for being able to receive his First Reconciliation and his First Communion later in the school year. And he was so very sincere. It was a spiritual boost for all of the adults at table. He reminded us how important it is to be thankful always for the gift of faith, for the gift of mercy, for the gift of the Body and Blood of Christ. I often hear people say they would like to celebrate the spirit of Christmas year-round rather than for just one month. I would like to have the spirit of Thanksgiving year-round. Because we have the Eucharist, we can! Happy Eucharist! Happy Thanksgiving!

Sacred Heart’s 100 Year Centennial Plans are underway to celebrate Sacred Heart’s 100 Year Centennial. Consider lending your time and talents to the Centennial Committee as plans are in the making to kick off a year long celebration starting on Saturday evening, June 6th,
2015, and continuing thru out the year until the closing in June 2016. Sacred Heart’s official anniversary is June 15, 2015.
Consider being “part of the heart,” as our committee seeks volunteers that are willing to lend their time and talent and treasures. We need a wide spectrum of expertise to make this a celebration to remember. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, December 9th at 7 pm.
Sacred Heart’s Collectable Christmas Ornament Sacred Heart’s Centennial Committee will be selling a collectable 2014 Christmas ornament that highlights the original Sacred Heart Church on Broad Street in Oxford. The ornament depicts the Sacred Heart of old. There is a limited number of the keepsake ornaments offered. The cost of the glass Christmas ball is $12 each and will be available after Mass by a Centennial Committee member. We will also be taking pre-orders on a tapestry that will depict the old Sacred Heart Church, the current Sacred Heart Church and the school. Please consider joining the Centennial Committee and see how you can be a part in making this celebration a year to remember.
