Stewardship Corner ~
“I give you a heart so wise and understanding that there has never been anyone like you up to now, and after you there will come no one equal to you.” (1 Kings 3:12) With those prophetic words God grants Solomon his wish for one thing—wisdom. Wisdom, of course, is much more than knowledge. In fact, what Solomon actually asked for was “an understanding heart.” Solomon sought not just understanding in his head, but understanding in his heart. We must look deeper into the meaning of Solomon’s request; in Hebrew the word for understanding also means “hearing.” Solomon wanted to hear God, and he wanted to hear Him in his heart. He wanted to listen to God.
We are all called to prayer, but too often we view prayer as a one way street. We talk to God and we expect Him to respond, but do we really listen to Him? Hearing God is an important part of stewardship. However, to hear God requires us being silent and listening. That is why adoration and other kinds of quiet and contemplative prayer are so important. It is through carefully listening to and hearing God that we can better perceive what we are to do. Do we understand in our hearts that we need the Lord’s help to achieve holiness?
Take some time this week to quiet your thoughts, clear your mind, and sit with the Lord. Close your eyes and try to envision Jesus sitting next to you. How would He look? What would He say? Let Him speak to you in His kind words and really allow yourself to hear Him. - See more at: http://www.thecatholicsteward.com

0132 Sacred Heart Parish Sunday, July 27, 2014
Sacred Heart Parish was founded June 3, 1915. Our parish has been helping Catholics live out their faith life in the Oxford area for 100 years, a fact which we hope to celebrate in 2015. If you would like to join our Centennial Committee to help plan activities surrounding the celebration of our first century, please contact the parish office ([email protected]).
Hearts on Fire Annual Swim Party
Calling all parish youth grades 6-12 to come have some fun in the sun! Join us for swimming and food on Tuesday, July
29th from 4-7 pm at the Bicknell's Pool, 249 Frog Hollow Rd in Oxford. Please bring $5 for the pool fee. We're looking
1. Practice reading/ writing sight words. Make this fun by having children write or read words written in sand,
salt, or even rice. Some children will appreciate the sensory stimulation.
2. Practice math facts or writing number sentences. This could also be done like the sight words or with a
paintbrush and water. Paint math facts on sidewalk or cement. Use sidewalk chalk to write math facts. You
could even use a flashlight to find the answer to math facts you hold up for the child.
3. Do an author study. Many popular children’s authors have great websites that allow you to read, learn about
the writing process, and connect with books in a variety of ways. Some good authors would be Jan Brett,
Kevin Henkes, Robert Munsch and more.
4. Help your child write postcards and/or letters to family and friends after a special event or activity that
they would like to share. This keeps your child writing and encourages other forms of communicating.
5. Practice fine motor skills. There are many resources online to help with this. Basic scissor skills and
tracing is helpful. Also, using chopsticks to pick up things and do activities is also great.
PLEASE PRAY FOR OUR SICK, especially:
Mark Schwerke, Paul Leahmann, Bob McMann, Gary Peterson, Francis J. Kinnier Jr., and all parishioners with special needs.
Please contact the parish office if you would like to add someone to our prayer list. You
may resubmit a person’s name anytime through our website, www.sacredheart.us or
call 610-932-5040.
Any new additions to the sick or military list will be in the bulletin for one month, then continued on the website for our prayers.
Please contact the parish office for removal from the website prayer list.
