1 Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue Newsletter May - July 2012 LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT I met today with a gentleman from a group, Animals - Abused and Abandoned. The group is out of Dallas, Texas and funds veterinarian care for non-profit animal rescue organizations. The meeting and the subsequent agreement to fund some of our veterinarian bills got me thinking (which can be scary). Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue is a small organization and we’re working VERY hard to succeed for another year. We have a special place and, while we all know that it’s special - we wonder if anyone else knows. This gentleman from Texas had heard of us though, knew how great our little “shelter on the corner” was and offered to help us. Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone else did the same? Yes! It would be very nice. My guess is that it is not going to work that way. My guess is that we are going to have to work for every dollar that we bring in. So…….here is my appeal. Your Board of Directors is working to produce a Corporate Ask packet. As of the date of this newsletter, it should be close to completion. What we need from our volunteers and our adopters (and all their friends, kin, non related people you meet on the street….etc. etc.) are contacts and help in soliciting organizations for Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue to partner with. Denver is known as a community that is good for business. Many of these businesses are actively involved in volunteer and community service. Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue needs to partner with these businesses and we need your help to do it. If you have a contact that would be helpful to our great shelter, please get either with myself at [email protected], another board member when you see them, or Terri Mahoney, shelter manager. Thanks and I’ll see you at the shelter! Katey Tarkington 2390 S. Delaware Street Denver, CO 80223 303-744-6076 http://www.rmfr-colorado.org/

Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue Newsletter May - July 2012
LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT
I met today with a gentleman from a group, Animals - Abused and Abandoned. The group is out of Dallas, Texas and funds
veterinarian care for non-profit animal rescue organizations. The meeting and the subsequent agreement to fund some of our
veterinarian bills got me thinking (which can be scary).
Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue is a small organization and we’re working VERY hard to succeed for another year. We have a
special place and, while we all know that it’s special - we wonder if anyone else knows. This gentleman from Texas had heard
of us though, knew how great our little “shelter on the corner” was and offered to help us. Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone else
did the same?
Yes! It would be very nice. My guess is that it is not going to work that way. My guess is that we are going to have to work for
every dollar that we bring in. So…….here is my appeal.
Your Board of Directors is working to produce a Corporate Ask packet. As of the date of this newsletter, it should be close to
completion. What we need from our volunteers and our adopters (and all their friends, kin, non related people you meet on
the street….etc. etc.) are contacts and help in soliciting organizations for Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue to partner with.
Denver is known as a community that is good for business. Many of these businesses are actively involved in volunteer and
community service. Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue needs to partner with these businesses and we need your help to do it. If
you have a contact that would be helpful to our great shelter, please get either with myself at [email protected],
another board member when you see them, or Terri Mahoney, shelter manager.
Thanks and I’ll see you at the shelter!

Something to help you beautify your yard and give back to the shelter! Print it out, use it and use it again. The bees will thank you! Your eyes will
thank you! Above all, the kitties will thank you, as only they know how! Huzzah!

Some of our wonderful RMFR Cats waiting for adoption:
APRIL WAS VOLUNTEER MONTH!
Rocky is a relative newcomer to the shelter. He survived for over a year (that we know about) living outside because of two fine ladies who still visit him every day. When he first arrived, Rocky was very shy. Today, he resides on the cages soaking up the sun and waiting to be petted and loved on. He is a chunk of a cat with an orange coat and sweet eyes and will make a quiet home a very happy home. Shadow Black – a soft and sweet girl that suns in front of the window in the purple room. A laid back black cat with soft fur and yellowish eyes, she will let you pet her for awhile and will then leave for greener pastures. Her previous parent lost Shadow Black when she lost her home. We are looking for someone who will help her find out what it means to be a special cat to a special person again. Handsome Hank is laid-back and mellow. When in the mood he loves to be petted and to sit in your lap. Hank is an FIV+ boy, who has remained robust and healthy over the years. FIV has no effect on humans, nor on non-feline species like dogs. It is transmitted between cats via penetrating bite wounds. Cats like Hank tend to live good long lives.
The Board of Directors and Staff at Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue want to say
THANK YOU
to all of our volunteers.
We started out the month with a bang! Linda Szumny (oddly enough, a volunteer
herself) put together a great bulletin board with pictures of people doing the best job in
the world – petting cats. We hope you got to see it and some of Linda’s other work!
She has “bulletin boarding” down to an art!
We have done several projects at the shelter in the last two – three months to improve
the shelter itself. There has been a kitchen remodel and the back room has almost been
completely repainted and (one wall) re-paneled. This resulted in a much cheery, much
less smelly two areas. I guess that is what happens when you live in a cat house.
As this newsletter goes to print we are looking forward to seeing all of the volunteers at
John Collins United Methodist Church for our desert celebration.
Please join us: April 28 12:00 – 2:00 pm
John Collins United Methodist Church
2320 S. Bannock, a few blocks NE of the shelter
Do you know anyone who would like to volunteer at Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue? Easy! Have them give Kevin a call or an email. Even if they are allergic to cats, there are opportunities, so volunteering is a YES proposition!
