WORD OF LIFE-September 15th “Throughout salvation history, God has welcomed repentant sinners with special joy. Jesus concludes the parable of the lost sheep with these words: ‘there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous people who have no need of repentance’ (Lk 15:7). so that you may be able to attend. Mark your calendars! This is an event

you won’t want to miss!

THIS WEEK’S READINGS The Chosen People turned their backs on God and worshiped a molten calf. Saint Paul, before his conversion, persecuted Christians. The prodigal son abandoned his father and squandered his inheritance. All three could easily have been punished, but instead all are welcomed back to the fold by our Lord, like the lost sheep in Jesus’ parable. Let us listen in God’s word for that promise of reconciliation.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK How can I imitate the father in Jesus’ parable? Whom can I welcome back?

Dynamic Catholic, Alive! – The Joy of the Gospel Are we truly joyful Christians? Do we rejoice at the great gift of faith, forgiveness, and love that we have discovered in our encounter with Jesus? It doesn’t take much to rob us of real joy—indifference, ingratitude, Luke warmness, and spiritual laziness. But it also doesn’t take much to rediscover the treasure we sometimes lose through our own negligence. Take time to safeguard your joy and celebrate when you find it again! “Your Future Begins with Us” News from St. Joachim School

Mission Statement The mission of St. Joachim Catholic School is to assist the parents and parish community in the shared responsibility of providing an excellent religious and academic education that is alive in Christ for the children of Washington County.

From the Desk of Mr. Farr…

This Sunday is Catechetical Sunday, how great is that? An entire day dedicated to the men and women who are willing to share their stories of faith, hope, love, and our religion; and that takes COURAGE! Isaiah 41:13 says “For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” This is exactly what catechists are always willing to do, to take you by the hand and show you the way of light and truth. We need catechists in every church and were especially grateful for the ones that we have who work with our students daily and weekly. No matter where we are in our faith journey there are always catechists to guide the way, we’re all on the road to heaven, aren’t we?

A LETTER FROM THE ARCHBISHOP: To the Faithful of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, I know I speak for many when I say how deeply saddened, I am by the deaths and the devastation that our brothers and sisters in the Bahamas are experiencing in the aftermath of Hurricane Dorian. I ask the Lord to carry those who have lost so much. To help provide both immediate and long-term aid to those recovering from this natural disaster, I am asking our nearly 180 parishes to participate in a second collection at all Masses this coming weekend or the weekend after (September 14 and 15 or September 21 and 22). Catholic Charites of St. Louis will forward 100% of funds raised to Catholic Relief Services which is providing relief in hurricane-impacted communities. I will be offering a Mass for those who lost their lives and the loved ones who are grieving. I ask you to please join your prayers with mine for those that must rebuild their lives after this tragedy. Sincerely yours in Christ, Most Reverend Robert J. Carlson Archbishop of St.

Louis
