A very BIG thank you from thebottom of my heart to theorganising committee of theRotary Club of Bugis Junction(RCBJ). They had done a goodjob for ensuring our visit toSingapore was such a wonderfulexperience from the very momentwe arrived in Singapore until theday we say “ BYE BYE “to Singapore.

Frances and I arrived at Singapore airport at 9am on Saturday morning. Wewere greeted by a smiling AG Kenneth the moment we stepped out from theairport. He was caring enough to send us to Hotel Ibis to check in and helpto unload our luggages. He even accompanied us to do our shopping aroundthe Hotel before we proceed to attend the 15th Anniversary Installationfunction of RCBJ at Singapore Zoo. Very unique place to have theinstallation, right ? From IPP Whai Yih’s comprehensive photo collections,we got to know the many projects and fun times RCBJ members had duringher rotary term.

After the installation, we proceed toSelatar Country Club to have ourdinner and “ Karaoke “ session. Itwas a beautiful experience sitting onthe golf terrace, enjoying a cup ofcoffee or tea and chit chatting withfriends from RCBJ and RC Chung-liChung Shing (RCCLCS) as thesurrounding scenery was so peacefuland beautiful !

The next day, we were fully charged and ready to visit Sentosa Island. Wewere introduced to the expensive bungalows, although we cannot afford topurchase, beautiful Siloso beaches, Casino in Resort World. Rotarian Joeywho was equipped with all shopping knowledge brought us to DAISOAlways $2 shop at VIVO City where we enjoyed our shopping withoutmajor damage to our pockets. We also visited Marina Bay Sand Casinosince Malaysian and foreigners are not required to pay S$ 100.

The farewell dinner was at SING’s Kitchen at Lavender Street, a highlyrecommended food outlet for those who wish to visit Singapore as theyserve delicious food. The ambience was great as everybody were makinglast minute effort to further strengthen our bonding. The dinner ended withjolly speeches by the 3 Club Presidents namely Nelson, Cute and PoayLim. Thanks to the Great Interpreters Nelson and Joey as laughter can beheard from all tables. ... by Angie

The annual per capita dues thatRotary clubs pay to RotaryInternational will increase to US$50in 2010-11, as established by the2007 Council on Legislation. Here are some changes that willprimary affect Rotary clubs:

Today's Programme

PP Dr Yee Yoke Leong'Why The REF Matters'

While I am enjoying my holidays overseas, I am in spirit still with the Club. Iwish President Poay Lim a good year ahead.

I am sure we can agree that 2009/2010 has been a very busy year. Some ofus in the Board who tried to sneak in more activities were not successful asthe programme was filled to the brim. IPP Frances has started some veryinteresting and memorable projects. Some of these have become oursignature club activities that we can all be very proud of and may be the envyof other clubs. I am sure not many of the other clubs at the Awards Nightexpected RCBKS to win 6 awards - just like PDG Joe has said, we havecome out of our shell.

Our Club has transformed like the German football team at the World Cup.We went back to basics, I think, got the members excited about ourprojects, got some very committed new members, rejuvenated some oldermembers and emerged fresh and may have become the darling of theDistrict. I think the able leadership of the club has made us what we aretoday. I ask members to join me to congratulate the IPP for a job well done.

Like 2009/2010, I will be away from most meetings for this coming RotaryYear but I will do what I could and whenever I can find the time.

Dear members, we have a good club so do what we can, whenever we canand move forward. .... PP CY

Oh! What a night!

And a wonderful night it was withour first Fellowship gathering forthe start of the rotary year. Howelse should it kicked off but withthe entertainment of watchingthe quarter finals game betweentwo great giants of Germany vs.Argentina.

Highlight of the night washowever, the great food, spectacular venue and amazinghosts; not forgetting thegathering of other fellow Rotarians and family members. As a newly inductedRotarian, this is a new experience and un-doubtly a very memorable one. Westarted off with mouth watering barbeque chicken and fish, accompanied bymashed potato and salad, washed down with international wines and localbeers. Graham & AG ever the gracious host, even while they just shifted totheir new pad the morning itself, made us all feel quite at home.

After the sumptuous meal, we proceeded to President Poay Lim’s abode forthe boisterous and vociferous cheering and supporting of our respective teams!A little bet to spice up the game and unfortunately, a heart wrenching andhumiliating lost of my favorite Argentineans, trashed and stomped to the groundby the Germans was nearly a poignant end to the night but lifted tremendouslyby the donations of all winnings and bets to charity.

Truly this night exudes the essence of Rotary in terms of Fellowship andService Above Self. I am grateful to be part of such a fantastic team and lookforward for more to come..... by Ann Ann
