5th and 12th term of AP are 14 and 35 respectively, what is AP? FORMULAE : A+(n-1)d A+4d = 14; a +11d =35 (SUBTRACT) We get 7D = 21 or D =3. Put the value of D in first equation. A+12 =14. A = 14-12 = 2 A=2, D = 3, thus AP is 2,5,8,11. . .


WHAT IS THE 10TH ELEMENT OF THE SERIES -1,2,-4,8 . . .? THIS IS GP A= -1 and R = -2 Formulae = A * R ^(n-1) -1*-2^(n-1) =-1*-2^9 =512 ANSWER.


WHAT IS THE SERIES : -5,25,-125,625. . . ? HERE A = -5, R =-5 SUM = AR^N-1 =-5*(-5)^N-1


There is an AP : 8X+4, 6X-2, 2X+7 . . .?what is X? Options: 15,2,15/2, If we put 2, we get: 20,10,11. . Which is

not AP. If we put 15/2, we get 64,43,22 . . Which is

AP. Thus 15/2 is the answer.


The sum of the series 24,3,8,1,2,7 to 8 terms is ? There are 3 series: 24,1,. Next term will be -22,. . 3,2,.. Next term will be 1 8,7. . Next term will be 6 Thus sum = 24+3+8+1+2+7-22+1 =24 answer.


Sum of the 10 terms of the series 4,44,444 . . .? Let us take 4 as common. 1,11,111 . . . Let us take multiply all these by 9 We have 9,99,999 . . . We can write these as (10-1), (100-1), (1000-

1) . . For 10 terms. We can write as 10+100+1000… - 10 This is GP, sum = A (R^N – 1) / (R-1) Or final answer = 4/9 ((10 (10^10 -1)/ 9) – 10)


Sum of first 20 terms of the GP is 243 times the sum of first 10 terms. What is the Ratio? Options: 3, -3, 3^1/2 A(R^N -1)/(R-1) = 243 (A(R^N-10 -1)/(R-

1) Let us try from options. . Try 3^1/2 A 59049 -1/ 2 = 243 A(243 -1)/2 59048A /486 = A242 /2 (they are equal). Thus the value of R = 3^1/2


2nd term is 3 and 3rd term is 2, what will be 5th term in AP? A+D = 3, A+2D =2. Thus D = -1. A = 4.

Thus 5th term will be A+4D =4 – 4 = 0


How many terms will add upto 155 in the series 10, 29/3, 28/3. . . Options: 30,31,32 This is AP. A = 10, D =- 1/3 Sum = N/2 (2a + (n-1) d) N/2 (20 + (n-1)-1/3) = 155 Let us try from options: try 31. 15.5 (20 -10) = 155 answer. Thus 31 is the answer.


What is 5th term of the series, whose sum of 5 terms is 5*N^2 +2N is ? Options: 3*5 – 10, 10n-2, 10n-3 5/2 (2a + 4d) = 135 2a+4d =54 A+2D = 27 The 5th term is A + 4D. Which will be 27 + 2D Let us try for N = 4. We get 4/2 (2a+3d) = 88, or 2A +3d = 44 or solving

the 2 equations, we get D = 10. Thus our answer is 47.Third option is the answer.
