Question 3 What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why? What locations and outlets are suited to your target audience and why? My target market is for people from their teens to their mid- twenties. This means the magazine will need to be affordable as most of my audience may still be at school or looking for work so will not have much money. My magazine will be sold in a number of different stores. For example small corner stores and also bigger stores like WHSMITHS will sell my magazine. Because of my target audiences age they are more likely to be into technology. This makes it easier to get my magazine out there as I can offer an online version as well as a paper version. This will then let me access a bigger market. Will digital technology play a part in the distribution methods? If I use digital technology to distribute my magazine I will be able to access a larger market. Most people nowadays are able to use a computer. This will aid my magazine as if there is an online version people are likely to read it online rather than going and physically buying my magazine. Again when using online, videos can be viewed rather than just pictures in a paper copy. This will attract my audience to come and visit my website so they can view videos. Even though technology will be part of my distributing channel I will still maintain using shops. This means that people have the option to buy a hard copy rather than a virtual copy. Question 3

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

What locations and outlets are suited to your target audience and why?

My target market is for people from their teens to their mid-twenties.

Also for those who don’t have access to technology can go and buy it so they are not missing out.

Which institution is best suited to your publication and why?

I think Bauer magazine should distribute my magazine. Their slogan “we think popular” connotes how they distribute only popular media. This connotes to the audience that my magazine is popular and professional. This is because they publish ‘KERRANG!’ magazine which is a big influence on my magazine. So in having the same type of magazine they know they are going to be able to distribute my magazine as they

already know ‘KERRANG!’ is big seller. Also with them being a big company they are likely to have many

connections when it comes to publishing and distributing my magazine.

Question 4

Who would be the audience for your media product?

My target market is for males and females (Hartley’s seven subjectivities) from their teens to their mid-twenties (Hartley’s seven subjectivities). I have aimed for this as I know what genre of music they like as I am of similar age. Also this is supported by having a cheap selling price as most people in this age are less likely to have a lot of money. I am not aiming my magazine at a specific person I want males and females to be attracted in buying my magazine. This way I will have access to bigger audience.

What is the profile of a typical reader?

Male profile

Name: Sam Dower

Age: 16

Favourite band/artist: we the kings, sleeping with sirens

Hobbies: gym, rugby

His favourite bands are the sort of genre that is likely to appear in my magazine.

Female profile

Name: Catherine Crane

Age: 18

Favourite band/artist: all American rejects, 30 seconds to mars

Hobbies: Shopping

Her favourite bands are the sort of genre that is likely to appear in my magazine.

What are the shopping and lifestyle habits of your reader?

I think the types of shops my reader will go to will be shops that offer cheap products. I think this because of my age of reader as I think they may not have a lot of money so are likely to not spend a lot when shopping.

The style of clothing I think they will have will be generally dark clothing. For example black skinny jeans, dark t-shirts/shirts. As part of their life style I think my reader will probably still be in education. This means they are likely only to read a magazine when they are traveling to school, work or when they go to bed.

Katz

According to ‘Katz’ my magazine offers readers ‘Diversion’, ‘Personal Relationships’, and ‘Personal identity’. ‘Diversion’ offer readers to escape from day to day life by reading about your favourite artists. ‘Personal Relationships’ offer readers to engage with the magazine as if they are having a chat with their friends. This is seen through the use of language used in the stories. ‘Personal identity’ offer readers to find out about new artists or genre, then going online to listen to them and find out you like them. This is seen in my magazine in the contents as there are stories about all kinds of artists.

Maslow

According to Maslow my magazine appeals to ‘Survivors’ and ‘explorers’. The ‘explorers’ enjoy the rebellious side of my magazine. This is represented through the rock genre as this genre is seen to be rebellious. For the ‘survivors’ they enjoy learning about the latest information and news about bands and artists. This is represented in the contents page where the reader can see all the bands featured in the magazine and also what the story is going to be about.
