Collaboration

Ms. Larrieu, a science teacher, asked me to help her students create PowerPoint presentations about

“energy”as we did every year. I showed her the VoiceThread I created for the library and she fell in love with it right away. We then discussed what should be included in the Voice Thread, how to evaluate the Voice Thread and how longit would take to finish the project.

Activity Description Research on the assigned energy. Prepare picture, graph, diagram, table or

other graphics for each slide. Prepare script for each slide. Get the script approved by the science

teacher for accuracy. Record voice. Presentation.

12.C.3a Explain interactions of energy with matter including changes of state and con servation of mass and energy.

12.C.4a Use kinetic theory, wave theory, quantum theory and the laws of thermo dynamics to explain energy transformations

12.C.5a Analyze reactions (e.g., nuclear reactions, burning of fuel, decomposition of waste) in natural and man-made energy systems.

13.B.5e Assess how scientific and techno logical progress has affected other fields of study, careers and job markets and aspects of everyday life.

Assessment Title Slide.

5-7 information slides.

Each slide must have a picture, graph, diagram, table or other graphic.

Each slide must have relevant narration.

The Voice Thread should have the following contents:

1. Type of energy 2. Renewable/nonrenewable 3. Where does it come from 4. Efficiency of its use 5. Monetary cost 6. Environmental impact 7. Hazards or drawbacks 8. Where is it currently in use or development

Clear Voice recording for each slide (about 3 sentence).

What worked? Creative Commons knowledge. Easy to use. Create slides in PowerPoint and upload

the whole file, and then record voice directly in Voice Thread.

Encourage creative imagination. The accuracy of information. Learn how to project voice. It is fun.

Page 14: Project elite energy dig final1

In the Future More planning time. More slides (about 10) to better explain

the topic. Better environment for recording. More opportunities for shy students to

practice.
