  • The third Sunday of Advent is often called "Gaudate" which means, "rejoice". We count it as the mid-point of this season of anticipation. You noticed that the candle we light today is pink, not purple, and the vestments are rose, suggesting a more rejoicing attitude. At this midpoint we relax our sense of wanting, to see that the long awaited one is almost with us. That longing for the fulfillment of a promise. That special time of preparation and waiting is almost over.

Today we turn to John’s Gospel and consider the person and role of John the Baptist as we are making our preparations for the celebration of Christmas. We can think about the role of John the Baptist and how similar it is to our role towards the people of today. John the Baptist seems to come from another world, he proclaims a message, he prepares the way for and points out the Savior to the men and women of his day. We, too, come from another world than that of the people among whom we live. It might not be a desert, but it is different because our values are not the values of this world, our outlook is not the same as those of the people around us. And we have a message, indeed it is the very same message as John the Baptist: Repent and believe the Good News. And we point to the Savior. Our task is to help our families, friends and neighbors to see Christ, to help them to recognize the subtle signs of His presence and action in our world. This is a great work, a prophetic task. By undertaking these responsibilities, and carrying them out conscientiously, we can be sure that we are changing the world, making it a better place and enabling many others to embrace the salvation Christ won for us. Let us then apply ourselves with renewed zeal and devotion to this task of being modern day John the Baptists, not seeking glory for ourselves, but by every thought and action doing our best to point to Jesus Christ, the one true Savior of the World. I wish you an enjoyable weekend and a truly blest and faith-filled Advent.

    Need a Christmas Gift Idea?

The Knights of Columbus still have honey available! The honey comes in Quarts, Pints and little Angels, with suggested donations of $20, $15 and $10. All profits go directly to the Handmaids of the Precious Blood, formerly on Petite Lake Road, now at their new Monastery, Cor Jesu, in New Market, TN. At the last Knights of Columbus meeting we voted to send a $500 check, from honey donations, to the Handmaids for Christmas. Please call John Hamlin (847-356-2578) for delivery directly to your door.

Your Help is Needed Now More Than Ever

During these difficult times many families

are in need of our support. COVID has made us rethink the best way to support our local food pantries. Although we WILL NOT collect food at this time, we are collecting donations. Donations allow the pantry to purchase the most needed items, when they need it. Any amount is greatly appreciated and helps restock the pantries.

From now until the end of the month we will be collecting monetary donations for Most Blessed Trinity’s Food Pantry.

To donate, following these three simple steps; MAKE, LABEL and DROP and we’ll do the rest.

    1. Make a check payable to: Most Blessed Trinity

    2. Label the envelope - “MBT Food Pantry” and

    insert check or cash

    3. Drop the envelope into one of the collection

    boxes in the church.

    Thank you for your support!

Inspiration - When This is Over

When this is over, may we never again take for granted

A handshake with a stranger Full shelves at the store Conversations with neighbors A crowded theater Friday night out The taste of Communion.. A routine check up.. The school rush each morning Coffee with a friend The stadium roaring Each deep breath A boring Tuesday LIFE itself.

When this ends, may we find that we have become: more like the people we wanted to be we are called to be and may we stay that way—better for each other because of the worst.

Weekend Stewardship Collection For the weekend of December 5-6, 2020

    Total Envelopes $10,644.70

    Electronic Giving $12,774.50

    TOTAL COLLECTION $23,419.20

“Rejoice always, pray constantly, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

This scripture sums up Stewardship. “Rejoice always” means place your trust in God; He will provide all that you need. “Pray constantly” means prayer should be a running conversation with God throughout the whole day, every day. “Give thanks in all circumstances” means even in bad situations, thank God. Suffering a little bit helps build empathy for others in similar situations and shows our dependence on God.

Have You Considered eGiving for Your Sunday Contributions?

There is a “Donate” button on our parish website that you can use for your Sunday donations. This option takes you to the Give Central website, where you can sign up for a regular schedule of contributing that YOU set up. The schedule is completely up to you, and there are several frequency options including weekly, bi-weekly, monthly and quarterly.

You can also sign up for continued Electronic Giving for your Sunday Stewardship contributions through the parish, either by direct debit from your bank account or credit card, on a monthly or weekly basis. A form is available on the next page or on our parish website. After signing up for electronic giving, never worry about forgetting your envelope again! It continues your support to Prince of Peace when you are out of town, on vacation or unable to attend Mass.

Parishioners who donate electronically to the Sunday collection receive a quarterly envelope packet, which contains envelopes for any special collections (i.e. St. Vincent de Paul, Holy Day & Archdiocesan collections) rather than the full monthly packet you receive now. Providing you with this new quarterly packet results in a savings to the parish.

If you prefer to write a check, or use cash, and use your envelopes, please deposit them in the collection box when you enter the church or mail your Sunday donations to the parish. Thank you for your continued support of Prince of Peace!!

    ELECTRONIC GIVING FORM

Our Electronic Giving program assures a continuation of your support even when you are not here. We encourage all of our parishioners to seriously consider utilizing this program. Most of us find that we attend Mass at parishes other than Prince of Peace during the year, related to vacations, family events, etc. We have received positive comments from parishioners who already utilize this program such as, “this makes it so much easier” and “I have peace of mind knowing that when I am out of town my obligations have been met.”

Direct debits and credit cards can be processed dependent on your preference. Please see below for options. If you require a different schedule please call Barb Ruhl, in the parish office.

I (we) hereby authorize Prince of Peace Church, to initiate debits to my (our) account as indicated below. I (we) authorize the financial institution below, to credit the amount of such entries to my (our) account. This authority is to remain in full force and effect until I (we) revoke the agreement. Any revocation is effective only after Prince of Peace Church has received notification from me (us) to terminate this agreement in such time and manner as to afford a reasonable opportunity to act upon the notice.

    Christmas: A Gift of Life

“The Gospel of life is at the heart of Jesus' message. Lovingly received day after day by the Church, it is to

be preached with dauntless fidelity as "good news" to the people of every age and culture. At the dawn of salvation, it is the Birth of a Child which is proclaimed as joyful news: "I bring you good news of a great joy which will come to all the people; for to you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord" (Lk 2:10-11). The source of this "great joy" is the Birth of the Saviour; but Christmas also reveals the full meaning of every human birth, and the joy which accompanies the Birth of the Messiah is thus seen to be the foundation and fulfilment of joy at every child born into the world (cf. Jn 16:21)” (Pope John Paul II, “The Gospel of Life,” n.1).

    A Prayer for Vocations:

Heavenly Father, Your divine Son taught us to pray to the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into His vineyard.

We earnestly beg You to bless our Archdiocese and our world with many priests and religious men and women

who will love You fervently, and gladly and courageously spend their lives in service to Your Son’s Church under

the guidance of the Holy Spirit. We pray that their lives may be always centered on our Eucharistic Lord; that

they be always faithful to the Holy Father; and that they may be devoted sons and daughters of Mary, our

Mother, in making You known and loved; and that all may attain Heaven. Bless our families and our children and

choose from our homes those whom You desire for this holy work. We ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Please inform the parish office of any additions to your family, changes in member status or address changes. All Catholic adults, 18 years old and no longer in school, who live within the parish area should register in their own name. Active and supporting membership includes offering one’s time, talent and treasure to assist in promoting the Gospel and the mission of Prince of Peace Parish. Please help us maintain our parish records by registering or

advising us of changes as soon as possible. Welcome to Prince of Peace! We are glad you are here!

Prince of Peace staff and the Communications Ministry frequently videotape or photograph participants enjoying programs, Masses and other events at our facility. These photographs are taken for use in parish publications, flyers, our website, brochures and future materials. All photos and videos taken on Prince of Peace property are for parish use and become the sole property of the parish. If you or a member of your family does not wish to be photographed, please contact the parish office.
