OBJECTIVES


To achieve these project’s objectives, some works and field and laboratory investigations were performed, such as: Hydrology, Geology, Geotechnics, Geochemestry.

Hydrology: To evaluate the basins of influence, to determine the design discharge over the basis of predominant meteorological phenomena, characteristics of the rivers and streams within the zone of influence.

Geology: To evaluate the structural condition of the area of study, determining the presence of fractures, cracks, failures, etc. of the area and its surrounding areas.


Geotechnics: Evaluation of the physical and static stability of the tailings and wastes deposits, as well as the adjacent slopes of influence, by means of indirect exploration, using Seismic Refraction and direct exploration through drills and

Geochemestry: Chemical composition of tailings and wastes, as well as the quality of waters from the different superficial run-off flows, mine drainages, industrial waters and waste water. In addition, the Acid - Base Balance of tailings and wastes will be determined, as well as the characteristics of the different quarries, including soil analyses.

AUTHORIZATION TO USE SURFACES FOR SOWING

It consists in the qualification of the surface for sowing of vegetables, which contributes to avoid wind and water erosion problems, generation of acid waters and to restitute the previous ecosystem.


MATERIALS

a. Substrate

This material was extracted from the watersheds around the tailings deposit that have a volcanic lithology. This granulated and burdensome material constitutes that substrate in flat zones of the tailings deposits. This material was spread on the tailings deposit with an approximate thickness of 30 cm.

b. Farming Soil

This material made of garden soil extracted from the zone of Chinchán, is the physical and biochemical support of vegetation. The thickness is of 20 cm. For the topsoil, gravel with a less than V’ diameter was used and the volume for the composition of this recommended soil was: 30% gravel, 50% sand and 20% less than mesh 200. PLAN OF QUILLACOCHA «EXCELSIOR» CLOSE-OUT In this environmental liability, it has elaborated a hydro-geological study indicating that the «Excelsior» clearing deposit, is located in an underground water collector from the north, northeast and southeast areas. The best direction of the underground flow is NE to SW, and the infiltration volume is 15.63 l/s.

METAL CONTENT EXCELSIOR

In order to mitigate the environmental pollution generated by the Aeolian erosion of the accumulating mining residual materials in the «Excelsior» deposit, generating dust in suspension and rock fall, Activos Mineros made the acquisition and installation of the Geomanta for the coverage of the «Excelsior» slope, located in front of the populated village of Champamarca, contributing to the area’s improvement of living conditions.

CONCLUSIONS Peru is a country open to mining investments. Peru has designed environmental sustainability

policies to engage in the exploration, exploitation and closure of mines.

We are working on the remediation of mining environmental liabilities.
