Fonts I have looked at various fonts using dafont.com, when looking at the different fonts I have tired to find fonts that remind people of school.; such as the ‘PW Scolarpaper’ font.

I am going to have my masthead in white to keep the magazine light, as I am using a green colour scheme. When I have looked at various school magazines on the web, I have found that the magazines that use a white masthead (with the main image being the whole cover )make the magazine seem more neat (uniformed).

Out of all the fonts that I have found I am considering using either ‘PW Scolarpaper’ (reminds you of the paper that school children use when practising handwriting), ‘Comix Loud or ‘KG A little swag’ (is a bit more childish and represents letters teachers normally hang around a classroom).

Name of the MagazineI have tried out a few names for my school magazine in different fonts, to compare them. By doing this I get a clear image of how it may look on my magazine how the length of the masthead might affect the front cover.I have chosen to go with the title ‘H.C.P’, it is the schools initials and students would be able to see those initials and know immediately what they stand for as it is an abbreviation that is regularly used to distinguish Harris’.

The last two images are possible fonts for my magazine, however I need to take into consideration that my target audience are both males and females and the first image of the two may seem more feminine.

Pictures The main image on the cover photo is going to be a student; as it is the school magazine it needs to have an recognisable figure on the cover. When picking the image, many factors have to be taken into consideration, such as whether to use someone form the lower school or not. I have decided to use someone form the post 16 such as the head girl as she is a recognisable figure to both the older years and the younger years. In addition as I am not going to have a separate background I have decided to use a landscape (full body) shot.

Colour Schemes

As the magazine is a school magazine, I am using different shades of greens and blacks (the school colours), to make the magazine easily recognisable. However I will try to use light/bright colours to make it more appealing to the target audience. In addition I may incorporate the school logo onto the cover page, but it will not be one of the main focuses.

I used the internet to research existing school magazine covers, when doing this I found that the magazines

tended to have full images, as the background rather than having a separate image and a separate

background. This made the magazine look more professional and tidier. In addition when comparing the

fonts used, the magazine covers that used the same basic fonts, look less interesting.
