MARY’S Teen Group this year. This is a very important ministry in our church and I pray all parents will support her in this endeavor. Continuing Faith Formation in the high school years (and beyond!) is pertinent to retaining the Catholic Faith in our society. As young people progress in their knowledge of academics, etc., their knowledge of the Faith and how it is KEY to directing and supporting them in every step of LIFE is not an option-it’s a Must! it’s the greatest GIFT we can give to our youth, and GOD meant it to be the KEY TO LIFE. The greatest gift a parent gives a child is not only knowledge of their faith, but how to put that in action. This is first and foremost learned through the family, however every church family should also be there to support it. True living of our faith has to go from Head Knowledge to Heart and we have to own it. These young people have to really know Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament and rely on him in their decisions. They have to have a close and true relationship with Him. A strong prayer life is key, along with the knowledge. They have the passion of life at this important stage, and we have the obligation to focus that passion in the right direction! This begins as a little child, but during these high school years, their faith formation either dies or comes alive, depending on how they are learning to use it. There are many strong forces hitting them in the secular world! No matter how many tools we give our children, if they are not shown how to use them in a practical way, they lose their meaning. High School is the essential time to bring all of this into fruition before they become of age, leave and enter college and life on their own. The forces of life hit strongly in this time period. I saw this happening many years ago and decided to start this teen group to help our young people know the richness of their faith. As I worked these years with our teens, I have seen many beautiful souls blossom, as the reality, richness and depth of the Catholic Faith came to their realization. They found out it wasn’t just book knowledge, but was essential and meaningful for them in daily life. They came to love the quiet prayer time we spent before the Blessed Sacrament at the end or beginning of each session. Jesus really spoke to them and loved them being there with Him. He called them to Himself. THIS is the greatest gift we can give our young people and it is ESSENTIAL that we do so. I am grateful to all the parents and teens who have supported our teen work here at St. Mary’s. My goal for every one of these young people before they graduate, is that they truly know Jesus in the Eucharist, have a strong relationship with Him through prayer, and essential knowledge of their Catholic Faith with all its Sacramental Riches, so that they will NEVER EVER leave the Catholic Church-the only place where Jesus resides and offers Himself to us through the reception of His Body and Blood in Holy Communion. If they don’t have this before they leave high school, they will likely not only fail to draw others to Christ and the Catholic Faith, but also fail to stay with the Catholic Faith themselves. It has to be their ANCHOR in life so that nothing washes them away. I have thoroughly enjoyed this work and pray that you will support Jane Ann in her endeavors to lead these young people. It is a selfless act of giving, taking much time and commitment, but so worthwhile! Support and commitment are essential!! I am more than gratified that God has trusted me in His work of teaching the Faith and continues to use me. At present I am being called to help His Mother to lead in her work with the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women, and I believe Jane Ann is being called now to the teen ministry. God has a plan for all of us at all times of our life and it is essential that we stay close to Him so that He can direct our lives to fulfill His plan-THE BEST PLAN! - May God Continue to Bless and Guide our Families. ~~ Angela Lipcamon Think of your faith as a flame in your heart. It is first and foremost a gift from God, but it won’t burn brightly unless you feed it. We all know how to nourish our faith: with prayer, the sacraments, and God’s word. But there’s another “fuel” we can’t do without, and that is good works. Today’s second reading is a stark reminder that our faith isn’t just between the Lord and us. We are part of a body, the body of Christ, united through Jesus’ death and resurrection. So when we re loving our neighbor, we are also loving the Lord, and that makes our flame of faith grow larger and burn more intensely. You are probably already performing many good deeds. But whatever you are doing, ask Jesus from time to time if there is something more or different you should consider. Above all, he will be pleased that you care for the needs that are on his heart — and that you are doing all you can to keep the flame of faith alive in your own. “Jesus, put the needs of your people on my heart, and show me how to care for them.”
