What is Salt Therapy?

- Salt Therapy is a drug-free treatment for Respiratory & Skin problems like Asthma, Bronchitis, Sinusitis, Smoker’s

cough, Allergic cough, other allergies and also for Stress. - It is administered to patients in an artificial salt-cave like room called the SALT ROOM (as shown in Picture)- Patients sit in this salt room while a machine called ‘Halogenerator’ installed outside throws in a salt aerosol that comprises of 99.9% NaCl into the room.- This salt aerosol goes deep into the cavities of the lungs, melts the mucus present in those cavities and cleanses the lungs. - Patients feel rejuvenated, detoxified, relaxed and de-stressed after a salt room session. Worldwide salt rooms are increasingly being used by people to fight STRESS.

Page 4: PPT-Final

It all started when natural salt caves in parts of Eastern Europe came to be used as ‘salt clinics’.

Patients suffering from Respiratory & Skin problems were made to sit in these caves with miraculous recovery from symptoms.

This mode of treatment was called ‘SPELEOTHERAPY’.

As the therapy became popular, these salt caves started to be build artificially, therapy came to be known as ‘HALOTHERAPY’ (‘halos’ is SALT in Greek).

These artificial ‘SALT ROOMS’ mimic the micro-climate of natural salt caves and provide much needed relief to patients suffering from chronic respiratory problems.

HOW SALT ROOMS CAME INTO BEING

Page 5: PPT-Final

Kurzentrum Bad Bleiberg in Austria is a natural Salt cave mine that is still used as a Therapy-clinic for patients suffering from Respiratory problems and many kinds of Allergies. Before Salt rooms came into being, such natural salt caves were turned into hospitals for treatment of sick people.

Page 6: PPT-Final

Since natural salt caves and salt mines were not conveniently located everywhere in all parts of the world, Halo-Therapy i.e. creation of artificial salt caves started to spread.

By the 1960s, Salt rooms came to be used as Proven and 100% Safe therapy for treating various respiratory and skin problems.

Halotherapy quickly spread from Eastern Europe to Western Europe, US, Australia and now is making foray into many parts of Asia including India.

BENEFITS OF HALOTHERAPY

Creation of SALT ROOMS that simulate the special microclimate of natural salt caves and salt mines has many advantages:

Salt Room Therapy is a drug-free treatment for Respiratory and skin ailments like Asthma, Bronchitis, Sinusitis, Rhinitis, COPD, Allergies.

Treatment in salt rooms is done in a controlled air-medium and the impurities that could be prevalent in natural caves are not present in salt rooms. Thus Salt rooms offer a 100% sterile environment for patients to sit and breathe.

The temperature in salt rooms is maintained for optimal comfort. Patients can sit and relax on comfortable arm chairs, watch TV, listen to

music and there is a separate play area for kids to play It was observed that sitting in a salt room was not just curative but also

extremely relaxing. Research led to prove that since each salt room is made of about 3-4 tons of

sea salt, presence of such a huge quantity of salt makes the room a very active NEGATIVE IONIZATION ZONE.

Asthma: A disorder in which chronic inflammation of the bronchial tubes (bronchi) causes swelling and narrowing of the airways.

How can Salt Therapy Help with your Asthma Symptoms?

The dry-salt aerosol is absorbed into the bronchi. It kills bacteria, viruses and aids in the clearing of mucus while reducing inflammation in the entire respiratory tract. The salt aerosol causes airways to widen and the patient breathes easier as a result of being in the salt room. Effects last several months – again, it varies from individual to individual. A full regimen of sessions will enable asthma sufferers to enjoy relief for extended periods of time.

SALT ROOM THERAPY FOR BRONCHITISBronchitis: The bronchial tubes are the tubes that carry air

into your lungs. They can become irritated by colds or flu, and smoking. With bronchitis, these tubes become inflamed and lined with mucous. Coughing, fever, tiredness and body aches are typical effects of bronchitis. Now there is relief for this unpleasant condition

How can Salt Therapy Help with your Bronchitis Symptoms?

The dry salt aerosol penetrates your lungs, nasal cavities, sinuses, and bronchial tubes. Mucous then loosens, and clears away. You may cough a bit or blow your nose while having your salt treatment, and this is perfectly normal. It means the therapy is working! The salt aerosol not only reduces inflammation, it kills bacteria. Following a regimen of salt room visits will provide ongoing clearing of mucus and thus cleaner, healthier lungs and sinuses.

Page 12: PPT-Final

SALT ROOM THERAPY FOR SINUSITISSinusitis: It occurs when the hollow cavities around the

eyes, nose, and cheek bones become inflamed. When they are inflamed, they produce mucous. They make you feel “stuffed up”. The swelling and inflammation increases mucous production creating an ideal environment for bacteria to exist – leading to infection.

How can Salt Therapy Help with your Sinusitis Symptoms?

Salt Room therapy reduces inflammation therefore reducing mucous and aiding in the healing process. You’ll feel tremendous relief from your sinus pain and symptoms. The Dry Salt is pumped into the air in the salt room into your sinuses salt (sodium chloride) with all beneficial properties. Breathe easier, fight infection and get relief from your sinus symptoms.

Page 13: PPT-Final

SALT ROOM THERAPY FOR ALLERGIESYou can’t “cure” allergies, unfortunately. But you can

treat them and lessen their symptoms. Hundreds of thousands of people in India suffer from allergies and the stuffy nose, hayfever , scratchy throat, post nasal drip and itchy eyes that go with them.

How can Salt Therapy Help with your Allergies? The soothing dry salt aerosol of our salt rooms penetrates bronchi and bronchioles and reduces swelling and inflammation, taking the “stuffies” away. Your nasal passages will be opened, naturally, without the use of nasal sprays or decongestants. Itchy throat and puffy eyes caused by your allergies will be soothed by salt therapy.

SALT ROOM THERAPY FOR COLDS/FLUWe all know how difficult it can be to get rid of a cold

or the flu and the symptoms can sometimes linger way too long as well. This is because viruses and bacteria get trapped in our bodies. Mucus is one of the culprits that hold bacteria.

How can Salt Therapy Help with your Cold/Flu?

Salt therapy provided at The Salt Room is ideal for loosening mucus, resulting in sputum—mucous is coughed up and expelled from the body. Benefits of a salt therapy session when you have a cold or the flu will be immediately noticeable. Symptoms will be relieved and nasal airways opened. Chest congestion will improve and the salt therapy treatment will reduce your need for prescription drugs. Salt therapy not only alleviates current conditions but acts preventively as well.

POSITIVE & NEGATIVE IONIZATIONWhat is Positive Ionization?o Positive ions, also called pos-ions, are

overwhelming in our polluted cities. o Presence of gadgets/electronic equipment all

around us create pos-ions that erodes our environment of negative ions causing Stress/Headaches/Lethargy/Depression/ Fatigue/Nervousness/Insomnia and a host of other respiratory and skin allergies.

o This imbalance in the environment creates an imbalance in our bodies too.

o Nowadays, our body is exposed to up to 20 times higher frequency patterns than it is generally used to.

o The consequences of this exposure is an accumulation of free radicals in the body, also known to be a cause of cancer.

Page 22: PPT-Final

Understanding Negative Ionization o Negative ions are considered to be ‘Nature’s healers’,

created by effects of water, air, sunlight. They are responsible for clearing the air of dust, pollen, bacteria and viruses and bringing about a balance in nature.

o Our homes and workplaces are usually sealed off from the natural benefits of negative ions. Even if you do keep your windows open, aside from all the pollution, if you live in a busy town or city the concentration of negative ions in the air may only be a tenth of that found in country environments.

o Our homes are so called ‘POSITIVE ION PRISONS’o Salt rooms are negatively ionized owing to the inherent

property of salt being negatively ionized. Sitting for one hour in a salt room session balances the ionization of the body bringing a sense of relief and overall well-being.

Page 23: PPT-Final

Why Salt Therapy……..Modern lifestyle has created many stressful situations for us. This STRESS leads to:

• A ‘fight or flight response’ in our body. Repeated exposure to stress puts a strain on the body and creates physical problems.

• Stress becomes a triggering factor for all Respiratory/Skin disorders.

• Presence of too many ‘Positive Ions’ around us creates an ‘ELECTRIC SMOG’ around us that affects our physical and emotional state adversely

• Scientific research has proven that amount of ions in the environment beneficial to humans should range between 1000-1500/cm3. Scientific tests have revealed that the ratio of negative to positive ions should be between 1.02to 0.98.

• In closed rooms where a few people work all the time, amount of negative ions may fall to as low as 200/cm3.

• This creates disharmony and imbalance in our surroundings and takes a toll on our health

Page 24: PPT-Final

How Salt Room Therapy works…..

Since the salt particle is very small, it penetrates deep into your lungs, nasal cavities, sinuses, bronchial tubes and is absorbed into the bronchi.

During a salt session, dry salt aerosol particle is dispersed into the salt room by a machine ‘Halogenerator’

Salt is anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory and mucolytic by nature. It reacts with the mucous present in the lungs.

Mucous then loosens and clears away. You may cough a bit or blow your nose while having your salt treatment, and this is perfectly normal.

It means the therapy is working!

This salt inhalation aids in reducing inflammation in the entire respiratory tract. The salt aerosol causes airways to widen and the patient starts to breathe easier after a few sessions.

The salt aerosol not only reduces inflammation, it kills bacteria. Following a regimen of salt room visits will provide ongoing clearing of mucus and thus cleaner, healthier lungs and sinuses.

Page 25: PPT-Final

Salt Rooms work as great stress-busters too!

• Negatively charged air in the salt room induces relaxation and overall well-being just like spending a day by the seaside.

• Oxygen flow to the brain increases, resulting in more mental energy

• Cleanses lungs leading to increased body immunity

• Cleansing of lungs leads to DE-TOXIFICATION

• Strengthens functions of autonomic nerves

• Neutralizes excess +ve ionization in our surroundings that affects us adversely

• Reduces ‘Electric Smog’ that envelops our surroundings nowadays
