Duration: 3 years, starting from February 1th, 2013 till February 2016:• Inception phase including inception and planning workshop: March -

December 2013• Steering Committee establishment (SC) – November 2013.• Signing of Memorandum of Understanding with MoCM & People’s

Committee– January 2014.• Implementation of the physical actions in the project sites: since April 2014

Project objective and expected results

Strengthen the resilience of urban communities, including social and health institutions, in Kujang City (North Pyong‘an Province) and Anbyon City (Kangwon Province) by improving food security, health and hygiene situation. Results:Urban water supply networks and sanitation facilities in private houses and social/health

institutions are rehabilitated and reinstalled.Decentralized storage units and sewage disposal Systems (DEWATS) are developed and

constructedA locally adapted concept in respect of reutilization of sewage waste products of agriculture is

defined and methods are applied. The capacities of the users/operators are strengthened by implementation measures

INCEPTION PHASE March – December 2013

• Ex-ante baseline survey: W&S coverages, water related diseases and malnutrition recurrence, water consumption and availability (Q&Q) and effluents pollution load • Assessment, designing, feasibility study and cost estimation of the different

interventions• Operational Plan adjustment • Inception and Planning Workshop

What is new in the project as a result of the assessment conducted during the inception phase

Under result 3 new issues were identified not included yet in the project:• Sediment balance assessment considering erosion and deposition

processes• Stormwater management (flood hazard map development and

drainage)• Flood control and prevention (river stabilization and regulation work)

Rehabilitation of Water Supply System& “SAFE DRINKING WATER SUPPLY rather than IMPROVED WATER SUPPLY”.

• Improvement of the water intake components

• Transmission line restoration

• Cleaning and rehabilitation of the water treatment tanks and attached buildings

• Restoration of the water distribution pipe system

• Replacement of fitting at the household level

• Replacement of pumps in Kujang city- Pump’s capacity : 18 Hp - 13 Kw/80 mᶟ/h

• Protection structures and improvement of water intake in Kujang.

• Provision of spare parts

• Water quality testing & treatment
