K nA LIVING FAMILY NETWORK

KIN APP.

Kin is aimed at those who cherish the connection with family members, whether it is down the road or half way across the world. It enables you to keep your private life and your family life

separate. So none of those drunk photos

from Friday night will be seen by grandma and grandad, keeping your innocent little angel act going.

Kin completely changes the way we interact with our family, using the blog enables you to keep in touch

Page 3: Portfolio final

Liam Leesand aunts to grandparents etc, and to the right is your current family, i.e Wife/Husband, Daughters/ Sons, Grandchildren etc.

This system allows the opportunity for your family to grow interactively within the Kin network.

Each of the nodes uses a notification system, in which it will glow

with your entire network of relatives in one local area, as well as keeping track of any up and coming events such as birthdays, anniversaries etc.

The network consists of many nodes each representing a member of the family, you are the centre node and going to the left is your past generations of family going from parents to uncles

Page 4: Portfolio final

Liam Lees when something related to them is about to happen i.e. a birthday, holiday etc and when an exclamation mark appears inside the node something has been changed/updated to their account.

With the ability to upload photos, videos, blog entries and new events to the shared area of the network gives you the

ultimate sharing environment of media for you whole family to enjoy.

Each family member can access another by selecting a node which takes them to your profile page where your uploaded media is located.

Do lectures Book.

The Do lectures are a set of talks aimed at inspiring people to ‘Do’amazing things, such as climb a mountain, invent something useful or just look up at the clouds.

This book is split into 3 parts – Confront, Evoke and engage.

Each of these parts consist of 3 lectures from completely different backgrounds, from environmentalists, politicians to the average Joe who has done something amazing.

To name just a few lectures Cary Fowler’s talk about seed preservation and agriculture is very inspiring and amazing and Andy Kirkpatrick’s story

Page 6: Portfolio final

Liam Leesof his multiple success stories from climbing many of the worlds killer mountains is fascinating.

The Do lectures have a motto – Ideas + Energy = Change.

It is this motto that led to the design of this book, The idea that to make a change you must first see things from a new perspective, and the continuity of the

upside down text through-out the book represents that.

To take in from one way a whole heap of information, filled with facts and questions to the other way being a brief summary about each lecture – straight to the point and easy to understand what is being discussed.

Each of the books have been

Page 7: Portfolio final

Liam Leesgiven a colour to clearly separate each of the books form one another while maintaining the consistency between the entire look.

This editorial piece has been printed onto newsprint to deliver an eco feel to the book because the Do lectures derive from an eco background.

With something like this it

is of great importance to keep the reader engaged at all times for them to understand the content, and this book does that.

Quotations through-out the text have been flipped and coloured according to the book as you can see here, the text really stands out and give a

Page 8: Portfolio final

Liam Leesnew dynamic to the transcript.

The flow of the book is broken up by the large quotes at the top of the page so that the reader can almost feel they are having a break from reading a particular lecture.

The Images have been doubled and reversed to produce an abstract image that works no matter which way

you read the book, they have been taken to represent each of the lectures given.

Hoard.No Strings Attached.

XXXHoard.

How do those who commit to a minimalist way of life indulge in what they left behind as a consumerist ?

They say that with everything you own no matter how inanimate comes with responsibility, and with that responsibility comes stress.

To become a minimalist you must live simply and only own what you need, i.e underwear, trousers etc.

Bear in mind though most minimalists do in fact combine many objects by using technology such as laptops, personal media players etc.

This enables them to carry many things like books, newspapers, music and

Page 12: Portfolio final

Liam Leesvideo wherever they go, as a vital part of being a part of the ‘cult of less’ is to be able to simply get up and go.

In some extreme circumstances, minimalists have de-cluttered to such an extent that they can count they belongings as less than 100.

(I don’t know about you but I sure can’t do that, maybe give it a go, it really

puts it into perspective of how far some people can go to become a minimalist. )

What Hoard provides is a service. This service is a place to indulge

in your filthy consumerist slobbery with no responsibility, these rooms for rent are filled with everything unnecessary from gaming rooms and libraries to lazy rooms with large sofas and huge televisions etc.

Page 13: Portfolio final

Liam LeesThe ability to experience this

lifestyle with no strings attached can be very beneficial to those who wish to simply relieve themselves of any tension.

The Hoard handbook serves as a catalogue for those who visit one of the locations of the Hoard service, In it are the selection of rooms available to hire.

From Plain Lazy to Ultimate Clutter,

there is sure to be something that would tickle even your fancy.

Again using the red light district theme through-out the brand, it gives it a sense of sleaze which is ideal considering the overall style of the brand.

Whilst practicing graphic design at degree level in Falmouth I have been introduced to whole new level of design process and development far greater than at college level. From strict deadlines to meet to spending as little time on a computer as possible simply researching and divolging into unknown information, I have learnt so much because of this.

The design process of developing a small idea into a large concept is what really gets me enthused about the industry, seeing something grow is what I am most interested in as a practicing designer.

Over recent months I have been thinking about my career as a practicing designer, and after recently visiting design studios in Holland I have developed and urge to experience what european design has to offer.
