NORTH EAST WEEKLY Police Scotland in Aberdeenshire launched its winter festive 'Safer Streets' campaign last week thanks to funding from the

Aberdeenshire Community Safety Partnership. The operation will see extra high-visibility patrols across the region, with officers

working with partner organisations to proactively reduce incidents of violence and anti-social behaviour.

Around 50 additional officers will be taking to the streets during the course of the campaign. Working alongside several partner

agencies including Aberdeenshire Council, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Street Pastors, and NHS Grampian the campaign

will see Police Officers dedicated to high visibility foot patrols, providing public reassurance and adopting a robust approach in the

prevention and investigation of violence. Patrols will be carried out across the Division including in Fraserburgh, Peterhead,

Inverurie, Stonehaven, Banff and Banchory.

Local Area Commander for Aberdeenshire South Chief Inspector Richard Craig said: "Aberdeenshire is a fantastic place to live and

the many towns offer a vibrant night time economy which we welcome. Safer Streets has been a highly successful campaign over

the years and I am grateful to Aberdeenshire Community Safety Partnership for their ongoing support. We are committed to keeping

people safe and building on the work that has been done with our partner agencies to ensure a safe and secure environment for

residents and visitors to enjoy. We are delighted that our local Policing teams will be able to once again work with partners to ensure

alcohol related violence and antisocial behaviour is minimised.”

"Our message is clear; we want people to enjoy themselves but to do so in a safe and responsible manner. We want to ensure that the

very small minority do not have the opportunity to disrupt it for vast majority who wish to go out and enjoy the festive experience in

the towns and villages across our area. Simple things like planning how you are going to get home in advance, being aware of your

alcohol consumption and looking after your valuables can help keep you safe at the busiest time of the year."

Willie Munro, Chairman of Aberdeenshire Community Safety Partnership said: "The co-ordinated approach used in Safer Streets

has proved very successful in the past and we hope to create a safe environment for people to be able to go out and enjoy the

festivities without encountering antisocial behaviour."

Keith Simpson, Senior Licensing Standards Officer, Aberdeenshire Council, said: "Safer Streets is about each of the partners

public that at this time of good will, that not every

body has goodness in their hearts. Over recent months,

there has been an increase in adverts on social media

selling sites advertising high price mobile phones.

This scheme requires the victim to forward their mo-

bile phone and a sum of money, in return a new high

value mobile phone will be dispatched to you.

The truth is that no mobile phone arrives and you have

lost your original phone and a sum of money. Whilst

not trying to undermine the entrepreneurism of sellers,

Police Scotland would like to remind the general pub-

lic that although many use social selling sites safely,

use caution in any transaction they intend becoming

involved in and do not provide bank details or send

any high value items or cash to sellers in advance.

Chest, heart and stroke illness can affect anyone. Thanks to

advances in treatment, and changes in lifestyle, many more people

survive heart attacks and strokes than ever before - a real success story for Scotland's health. However, this means that many more

people, and their families, are living with the long-term impact of these conditions. Right now one in every ten people in Scotland is

living with chest, heart or stroke illness.

CHSS is the only charity providing services throughout Scotland for people affected by chest, heart and stroke illness. During 2014

we were able to help more than 18,000 people through our advice line and patient information, support groups, financial grants, and

our wide range of local services, which we provide in communities throughout Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

None of this would be possible without the contribution of our volunteers. Their work is absolutely vital in our local support

services, charity shops and other activities. We very much appreciate the commitment, enthusiasm and care they bring to the charity

and to their local community. With continuing grateful thanks, and best wishes for 2015.

cause, it is often a major factor in incidents of anti-social

behaviour, violence, and domestic abuse.

"Drinking more than the recommended daily amount can have a

negative effect on our health, our awareness and decision making,

and can lead to people finding themselves in vulnerable situations

that could have been avoided if sober ".

Adam Coldwells Chair of Aberdeenshire's Alcohol and Drug

Partnership said: "We need to remember that our bodies take time

to process alcohol. What we consider to be normal drinking may

not be safe drinking, so drink responsibly and stay safe whilst

enjoying the festivities."

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service Local Senior Officer, David

Rout, said: "The purpose of the Service's involvement in Safer

Streets is to ensure that suitable preventive ad vice, assistance and

action is taken to protect the public from the dangers of fire in the

home and their surrounding community areas and make sustained

and targeted efforts to reduce wilful fires through the direct links

with antisocial behaviour.

"Alcohol remains a significant

contributory factor in the underlying

cause of fires in the home. If you

have been drinking alcohol the

likelihood of a fire starting increases

considerably.

"No organisation can tackle or

address the issues of anti-social

behaviour, alcohol and substance

misuse alone. It is acknowledged that

a partnership approach is needed and

as such The Scottish Fire and Rescue

Service is delighted and united in its

approach to collaborate with its key

partners in the Police Scotland,

Aberdeenshire Council, NHS and

other key partners to proactively

work together in the Aberdeenshire
