THIS WEEK … students from Years 3 and 5 participated in NAPLAN testing and survived the experience! Pr Mel has been busy kicking off the ‘Seasons of Growth’ course. This is a program to help kids learn to cope with change and loss. Further programs will run later in the year so let us know if you think your child would benefit from being involved. Our Year 4 students are away on an excursion today learning about the Awabakal People. We have had three Year 10 students doing their work experience with us, finding out if teaching is the job for them! NEXT WEEK … we expect all students to be looking fabulous in full winter uniform for Photo Day on Tuesday. Bible studies begin next Friday for students in Years 4-6. These groups are for students who have requested to learn more about God. OUR VALUE … We have been learning about Reliability this week. This is a character trait that we all value in the people we deal with. We can support our children in learning to be reliable by not always fixing their problems. If they forget their library bag, hat or homework, let them deal with the consequences of their actions. If you intervene, they miss an important reminder about responsibility and a great opportunity to learn resilience. Enjoy this beautiful Autumn weather with your family this weekend. And guess what? Our Year 12 Music students won a competition for MoJo Homes, collecting $5,000 in prize money which will help fund session musicians and various components for the major HSC performances. Huge congrats to this group! CHALKBOARD ITEMS ... Please ensure your child is looking his/her finest and in perfect winter uniform on Tuesday – yes, it’s Photo Day! Last week I had the pleasure of watching our HRIS Cross Country runners in action and the Avondale School team of teachers and parents who organised, supervised, catered and cleaned up. It was an outstanding team effort! A great day and magic weather! Often, much of our attention and praise is directed toward highly visible and successful people. But occasionally we read about an ordinary, regular person being honoured for many years of reliable service. That kind of reliability often goes unnoticed, but I believe it’s a powerful picture of how real work gets done. Although consistency may not be flashy, days of committed and reliable effort build a reputation. Reliability is the quality that leads others not just to believe you, but to believe in you. Oprah Winfrey is quoted as saying “Lots of people want to ride with you in the limo, but what you want is someone who will take the bus with you when the limo breaks down”. It’s great to have people who can be trusted at all times regardless of the circumstances. Enjoy the news for Week 3.

This discount is our way of supporting families when payment due dates are met. May we encourage you to plan now to have your payment to the Business Office by these deadlines in the future if you wish to avail yourself of this particular reduction. Unfortunately, outside these dates will not attract the discount (July 29 and October 14 2016). In the interim, may we thank you for consistent payments. It’s wonderful to have your support in this important aspect of our school program.
