Navigating Cisco Prime Common Services Tasks in LMS 4.2
CiscoPrime Common Services (CS) provides the application infrastructure for all existing CiscoWorks network management solutions for them to share a common model for data storage, user login, user role definitions, user access privileges, and security protocols.
This chapter provides the mapping of CS tasks in LMS 4.2.
It explains:
• Server Tasks
• Software Center Tasks
• Device and Credential Tasks
• Group Administration Tasks
Server TasksThis section provides information on the Common Services Server tasks in LMS 4.2.
CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Common Services > Server > Security > Single Server Name > Browser-Server Security Mode Setup
Admin > Trust Management:Local Server > Browser-Server Security Mode Setup
Common Services provides secure access between the client browser and management server. It does this using SSL (Secure Socket Layer). SSL encrypts the transmission channel between the client, and server.

Chapter 2 Navigating Cisco Prime Common Services Tasks in LMS 4.2 Server Tasks
Setting up local user policy
CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Common Services > Server > Security > Single Server Name > Local User Policy Setup
Admin > System: User Management > Local User Policy Setup
You can setup username and password policies for CiscoWorks local users in Common Services. With the new local user policy, you can:
1. Start the local username with a number
2. Include special characters in local username
3. Specify the length of local username
4. Specify the length of local user password
You can add and delete users, edit user profiles and modify the logged in user credentials
Setting up security certificate
CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Common Services > Server > Security > Single Server Name > Certificate Setup
Admin > Trust Management:Local Server > Certificate Setup
CiscoWorks allows you to create security certificates that enable SSL communication between your client browser and management server. Self signed certificates are valid for five years from the date of creation. When the certificate expires, the browser prompts you to install the certificate again from the server where you have installed CiscoWorks
Setting up Peer Server Accounts
CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Common Services > Server > Security > Multi-Server Trust Management > Peer Server Account Setup
Admin > Trust Management:Multi Server > Peer Server Account Setup
Peer Server Account Setup helps you create users who can programmatically login to CiscoWorks Servers and perform certain tasks. These users should be set up to enable communication among multiple CiscoWorks Servers. Users created using Peer Server Account Setup can authenticate processes running on remote CiscoWorks Servers.

Chapter 2 Navigating Cisco Prime Common Services Tasks in LMS 4.2 Server Tasks
Setting up System Identity Setup
CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Common Services > Server > Security > Multi-Server Trust Management > System Identity Setup
Admin > Trust Management:Multi Server > System Identity Setup
Communication between multiple CiscoWorks Servers is enabled by a trust model addressed by certificates and shared secrets. System Identity setup helps you to create a "trust" user on servers that are part of a multi-server setup. This user enables communication among servers that are part of a domain. There can only be one System Identity User for each machine.
Setting up Peer Server Certificate Setup
CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Common Services > Server > Security > Multi-Server Trust Management > Peer Server Certificate Setup
Admin > Trust Management:Multi Server > Peer Server Certificate Setup
You can add the certificate of another CiscoWorks Server into its trusted store. This will allow a CiscoWorks Server to communicate with another using SSL. If a CiscoWorks Server needs to communicate with another CiscoWorks Server, it must possess the certificate of the other server. You can add certificates of any number of peer CiscoWorks Servers to the trusted store. You can add, delete and view the details of the client certificates.
Setting up Single Sign-On Setup
CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Common Services > Server > Security > Multi-Server Trust Management > Single Sign-On Setup
Admin > Trust Management:Multi Server > Single Sign-On Setup
With Single Sign-On (SSO), you can use your browser session to transparently navigate to multiple CiscoWorks Servers without authenticating to each of them. Communication among multiple CiscoWorks Servers is enabled by a trust model addressed by Certificates and shared secrets.

You can check the overall status of the configuration archive (Successful, Partially Successful, and Failed). It provides the status of the last archival attempt.
Configuration > Configuration Archive:Views > Version Summary
You can view all archived configurations for selected devices. A link is provided to view a particular configuration running on the device and to generate differences between versions in the archive.
You can view the last three configuration versions for each device regardless of number of versions stored in archive.
You can search the archive for configuration containing text patterns for selected devices. You can specify ten different combinations of patterns/strings as part of search criteria.
You can compare two device configuration files from version to version or from device to device. You can also compare the configuration when a device was started with the current configuration, and the current configuration with the most recently archived configuration.
You can compare the configurations in these ways:
• Startup vs. Running—Compares the configuration when the device was started with the current configuration. These configurations are fetched from the device.
• Running vs. Latest Archived—Compares the running configuration with the most recent archived configuration. The Running configuration is fetched from the device.
• Two Versions of the Same Device—Compares two archived configuration versions.
• Two Versions of Different Devices—Compares any two configurations in the configuration archive.
• Base Config vs. Latest Version of Different Devices—Compares the base configuration of a device with the latest configuration of other devices. These configurations are fetched from the device.
Baselining refers to identifying a set of standardized policy based commands that you would want to have on a set of devices.
You can create a Baseline template which is a set of commands identified through the baselining process.
You can compare the Baseline template with the configuration of devices in the archive. You can also generate a non-compliance configuration report and deploy this template on the devices to make them compliant.
You can deploy a Baseline template to a group of devices by scheduling a job.

Normally UT Acquisition discovers end hosts connected only to access ports. If you enable this feature UT Acquisition discovers end hosts connected to non-link trunk ports also.
Specifying Purge Policy
CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Campus Manager > User Tracking > Administration > Reports > User Tracking Purge Policy
Admin > Collection Settings: User Tracking > Dynamic Update Process Status
User Tracking generates reports on various functions and attributes of the end hosts and devices connected to your network that are managed by LMS. These reports are generated by polling the network at intervals set by the network administrator.
In addition to polling the network at regular intervals, LMS tracks changes about the end hosts and users on the network to provide real-time updates.
Dynamic Updates are asynchronous updates that are based on SNMP MAC notifications traps.
Admin > Collection Settings: User Tracking > Trap Listener Configuration
LMS receives SNMP traps directly from the switches if you configure the port to direct the traps through primary listeners such as HP OpenView (HPOV) or CiscoWorks Device Fault Manager (DFM) applications.
Configuring Dynamic User Tracking
CiscoWorks LMS Portal > Campus Manager > User Tracking > Administration > Dynamic Updates > Dynamic User Tracking Configuration
Admin > Collection Settings: User Tracking > Dynamic User Tracking Configuration
You can configure certain properties in Dynamic User Tracking to enhance the security of the system.
These properties make the server receive traps only from specified devices and with specified community strings.
Topology Services is an application that enables you to view and monitor your network including the links and the ports of each link.
Topology Services displays the network topology of the devices discovered by LMS, through Topology Maps. Besides these Maps, the application includes numerous reports that help you to view the physical and logical connectivity in details.
Bandwidth Utilization is the measure of traffic flowing across a link. LMS highlights bandwidth utilization across links, in the Topology maps. It computes the bandwidth utilization by taking the best estimate of the mean physical layer network utilization on the links, during the sampling time interval.
In Topology Map, LMS can differentiate the links using colors, based on the bandwidth utilized by them. You can customize the filters to display bandwidth utilization.

Configuration TasksThis section provides information on the Campus Manager Configuration tasks in LMS 4.2.
A Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) allows you to create logical broadcast domains that can span across a single switch or multiple switches, regardless of physical positioning. A VLAN contains a group of devices on one or more LANs.
You can create amd delete VLANs using VLAN Configuration wizard.
Allows you to create a VLAN by selecting devices or entities to be included in the VLAN. Domain Selector helps you to select devices in Switch Clouds and VTP Domains.
Configuration > Workflows: VLAN > Create Private LAN
A Private VLAN (PVLAN) is a VLAN that isolates devices at Layer 2 (L2), from other ports within the same broadcast domain or subnet. PVLAN segregates traffic at L2 and converts a broadcast segment into a non-broadcast multi-access segment.
To create a Private VLAN, you must designate one VLAN as primary and another as either isolated, community, or two-way community VLAN. Then, you can assign additional VLANs as secondary VLANs.
After creating primary and secondary VLANs you must associate the secondary VLANs to the respective primary VLANs.
Configuration > Workflows: VLAN > Configure Port Assignment
VLAN Port Assignment is an application that displays device, port, and related VLAN information for an associated VTP domain in a tabular format and helps you manage ports on your network VLANs.
A Trunk is a point-to-point link carrying traffic for several VLANs, and are typically used to connect switches. Instead of configuring several access links to carry multi-VLAN traffic, its economical to do it with a single trunk link.
Admin > Jobs: Browser You can manage Report Jobs using the Reports Job browser. You can also view the output of completed jobs, stop running jobs or delete jobs if required.

Admin > Network: Notification and Action Settings > Event Sets
You can apply as many event sets as you want to a notification group, thereby tracking the specific events in which you are interested. If you do not specify an event set, LMS will monitor all events and faults for notifications.
E-Mail Subject Customization page is used to customize the e-mail subject for forwarded faults and events. You need to select the subjects and the order in which they are to be displayed. When you apply and save the selections, the e-mails are sent in the customized order.
The E-Mail Subject Customization page displays the available subjects and the selected subjects for e-mail.
System-defined groups have a higher priority than customizable groups, but you can change the priorities as needed. This is helpful, for example, when you configure specific customizable groups of interest and want to give them the highest priority.
Changes to polling parameters, setting priorities and threshold values do not take effect until you apply changes, thereby reconfiguring LMS to use the new values. Similarly, after you resume devices or device components that were suspended from polling, you must apply changes for the device elements to be polled.
Your login determines whether you can perform this operation.

Chapter 10 Applications and Tasks Removed from LMS 4.2 CiscoWorks Resource Manager Essentials Tasks Removed from LMS 4.2
Normal devices are devices that have been successfully contacted by LMS, or the device has contacted LMS at least once (polling, successful job completion, Syslog receipt). This indicates that this was a real device in the network (at one point in time).
This state does not guarantee that you have had a successful Inventory and Configuration Collection.
When the device is added to LMS, device management moves the device into this state, and invokes all the registered application tasks such as Inventory Collection and Configuration collection.
Based on the results of the tasks, the device moves to one of these states—Pre-deployed, Normal or Aliased.
The Pending state is a transient state and no device will be in this state for any significant time. If the devices are in this state for a longer time, you can suspend the devices and resubmit for managing.
In the Pre-deployed device state, the device has never been contacted by LMS through protocols such as SNMP, Telnet, or SSH.
If LMS contacts the device through tasks such as Inventory polling, Configuration polling, and receiving syslog messages, the device moves to a Normal state.
For IPX/IGX/BPX/MGX devices, both the Cisco.com Upgrade Analysis and the Repository Upgrade Analysis options use the upgrade knowledge base to make upgrade recommendations.
