Project Goals

•Educate the public and land managers on the threat of Japanese Knotweed to the Molalla River ecosystem.

•Inventory and map the extent of infestation along 25 miles of stream.

•Host three outreach and control events to educate the community in control methods. Wagon Wheel County Park, Calvin Nunn Property and Molalla River State Park.

•Restore and improve riparian functions to benefit federally threatened winter Steelhead and Chinook salmon fish populations.

•Reduce threat of Knotweed infestation on BLM lands in the upper watershed.

Proposed Schedule

• Phase 1-Drift river, identify uppermost infestation point, take photos, evaluate data collection systems (WIMS Weed Information Management System), collect GPS coordinate, readily accessible road crossings will also be data collection points, create GIS map of collected points-Phase 1 is underway! Funded by CCSWCD

Phase 2-Drift River, collect data to determine extent of infestation along 25 miles of the main stem of the Molalla River, Conduct three control/outreach workshops at Wagon Wheel County park, Molalla River State Park and one private landowner, mail educational material to all riparian landowners. RACC funded up to $20,000.00
