History History of Industrial Microbiologyof Industrial Microbiology Industrial microbiology originated

with alcoholic fermentation processes, e.g. beer, wine.

Subsequently, microbial processes were developed for the production of pharmaceuticals, food additive, enzymes and chemicals.

Currently, methods for gene manipulation have given rise to new microbial products, most of it which are not naturally produced by the microb, e.g. human insulin.
