Would love to know how to slow this time down! The significance of the events that are crowded into the last few weeks of school does not shine through when we are dashing from one to the other. It takes an intense effort to stop and focus on each instance so that we can truly celebrate the greatness of our students’ achievements, our staff’s talents and our families’ sacrifices and support. Although success happens in multiples here every day, we tend to take them for granted. Other schools do not have such outpourings of goals achieved and talents displayed. There is a mediocrity in other school settings...not here…not our team! Let’s take a few glimpses…the runner who continues to push beyond his previous capacity…the young “invisible” girl who is seen in class, laughing and interacting with the classmate next to her….the previously irascible young man who simply responds with a quiet “ok” when a teacher gives a direction in place of prior disagreements….the student who is observed huddled in deep concentration on class work that had previously created outbursts of frustration…and the table of formerly isolated young men who sit together at lunch and interact with levity and animation. These stories go on and on, particularly in the last third of the school year. We cannot allow these small victories to become routine. We must pay attention and create multiple ways to celebrate each step! This week’s AAC banquet, TCS Sports Banquet and MS and HS plays are ways we can do just that. The AAC banquet was held at Brandon Hall this year and was very well done! The opportunity for each school to highlight their stand out athletes is very valuable. Later this week, and next week, TCS will take the opportunity to recognize our stand out students in all areas. Awards night is a very important night for our campus. As a parent, you should be there! Every student has something (at least one and usually more) to acknowledge and honor….I can’t tell you how many parents, after the event, say “Oh, I didn’t know my teen was being recognized or I would have been there”. First, this is an all campus celebration so being there for the student body is an important responsibility. Secondly, we make a point of recognizing each student all year long, so the end of the year should be no different. Check your calendar for the MS and HS dates and plan to come. You will enjoy the evening, I promise! What can we say about our thespians! Drama productions have been a critical component of our curriculum since Day 1. Whether the performance is scripted or improvisational, dramatic activity allows us to stretch beyond and within ourselves, explore alternative human conditions and have a great deal of fun! That is exactly with this year’s stellar Alice in Wonderland cast did! We all loved every minute of this witty, fast paced, well delivered production! Thanks to Georgia Ensemble Theater for partnering and huge kudos to the HS staff, students and families for their contributions. Can’t wait for the MS play on Thursday! Now is when I put in a plug for graduation, as well. Friday the 24th is a great day at TCS. Plan to join us at 11:00 in the Cougar Center and see “the Rest of the Story”…we promise to make it a worthwhile event. It is so important that all our parents experience graduation before it is their turn!! This year’s graduates are very, very special!! Enjoy the CELEBRATION!!!!!

Jacque’s Note
YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE THIS IS REALLY VERY IMPORTANT TO TCS NEW PROVISIONS TO GOAL EFFECTIVE 2013 GOAL, as I hope you now know, is a program in the State of Georgia, which allows you to divert a portion of your Income Tax Liability to Scholarship Funds to be used for Enrollment at The Cottage School. Demands on our Scholarship Funds for new enrollees are at an all time high. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Governor Deal signed into law, HB 283 which modifies the previous legislation. Among other provisions, the new law allows members of LLC , shareholders of “S” corporations, and partners in a partnership to qualify for UP TO $10,000.00 IN TAX CREDITS. This is up from the previous cap of $2,500.00. Can you imagine if every TCS family associated with an LLC, Chapter S corporation or Partnership, requested from that business, their support of The Cottage School in this NO COST opportunity to assist us with Scholarship. WE NEED YOUR HELP. Please share this with your significant other (you know, the one that doesn’t have time to read the Wednesday Packets). THIS IS IMPORTANT AND WE CANNOT DO THIS WITHOUT YOU. A TAX CREDIT – A NO COST WAY TO SUPPORT TCS WITH SCHOLARSHIP – A WAY FOR US TO INCREASE OUR ENROLLMENT – A WAY FOR US TO CONTINUE OUR EFFORTS TO MAINTAIN THE OUR TRADITION OF A SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND CULTURAL DIVERSIT POPULATION. WHY WOULDN’T YOU SUPPORT THIS PROGRAM Go to www.goalscholarship.org to learn more about this program. Go to, http://www.goalscholarship.org/for_donors/page/goal-paperless-process when you are ready to make your tax deferral. These funds go fast. Please make sure you get your deferral registered as quickly as possible. We lost a great deal of support, last year. as our families procrastinated on acting on this fantastic win/win opportunity. Still unsure or have questions? Contact Bob Crenshaw, 678-250-5105 or [email protected], or Joe Digieso, 678-250-5100 or [email protected]. We will assist you in any way possible.

Everyone Attends!
ATTENTION HS Parents and Students: In an effort to help our teenagers learn the concept of Sick/Personal Leave in the work place, we have a system that tracks their attendance hours as if they were on the job. Each student earns 8 hours (1 day) every 4 weeks and can use or accumulate up to 32 hours (4 days) per semester. If they are absent more than their allotted hours, they make them up. If they save the hours, they can cash them in for days off during exams- like we save days for vacation at work. Please check accumulated/negative attendance hours with your student, and verify with their homeroom teacher during weekly calls. Students who have saved hours are eligible to take early exams and buy-off their exam days for an extended break! Students who are eligible to buy off exam days will bring home an Exam Buy-off Form with their positive hours listed and they will need your signature to be able to take advantage of this privilege. If your student has negative hours, it is imperative that they make-up negative hours prior to Saturday School on May 18, 2013. If they fail to do so, they will have to attend Saturday School. Students who owe hours and who do not attend Saturday School will be suspended for the three days following May 18th per our school policy. This means that students will be suspended from school and miss all of their Spring final exams. For students who owe hours, they should make-up at least one hour every day by coming in early from 7 to 8 A.M. or staying after school from 3 to 4 P.M. We strongly encourage them to make up their hours daily, so they can avoid Saturday School all together!
Thank you,
