ENGAGE, EMPOWER, EXCEL!
Each year we look for a theme that will guide us through the year. This year the staff voted on the inspirational words noted above. Each one clearly indicates an important aspect of the TCS experience. Look for this call to action throughout this school year. I also challenge you to help us identify ways in which we can accomplish these goals! I hope you felt this motto when you participated in our Academic Open House on Monday. Thanks to all who attended! We are so blessed to have such accomplished and creative teachers. Although your time on campus was brief, I trust you got a sense of your teen’s school day. Kudos on top of Kudos to TCS families who contributed 2,250 canned goods for North Fulton Community Charities’ annual drive...top homeroom collected over 700 (yeah Cecil!) with close contenders being Raluca and James’ homerooms with over 4oo each! MS homeroom leader was Phil’s with 100!! Considering we have 164 students enrolled, this is a phenomenal accomplishment!! Thanks to the Interact Club under Lynn Haas’ leadership who sparked this competition and made a huge impact on the empty shelves at NFCC. We are very excited about our participation in cross country, soccer and volleyball this month. The season has just begun, but please check your calendar for a location you can attend and support these fabulous young people. Also, when we host an event in our gym, we need concession ready adults. Actually, Lyle trains the students in great detail, so there is very little the adult concessionaire needs to do. But we believe having an adult at the scene prevents confusion and adds the necessary supervision. Please consider signing up with Lyle and helping our teams out. Thanks! As we settle in to the routine of this first semester, we will have a variety of religious holidays, flu season, and unexpected family events, all of which call us away from our daily schedule. Trust that our planner system helps keep our students informed of their responsibilities and helps them stay as current as they can. It is important that we teach our students to meet their daily responsibilities, initially, one day at a time. However, it is also important that we allow them to learn to plan ahead and adjust to the unexpected. Your guidance in both of those categories will be time well spent. Religious Holidays are respected here at TCS, but you must send in a note (just as you would notify your boss at work) to prepare the staff for the student’s absence. Family emergencies present a very different scenario. You do not have prior knowledge of the event and so are often scrambling to make arrangements. We understand and will be flexible when holding your teen accountable. Usually it is they who remember to get their planner and complete what they can while they are absent. When they return, the staff will be accommodating. You will be hearing from your PAC as they gear up for a very busy year. They hosted a very successful New Parent Breakfast last week and have several events coming up that will allow for fellowship, socialization and support of the school and the students/staff. The recent planning meeting of the PAC leadership team was very exciting as these committed parents tossed out ideas and shared their enthusiasm for all things Cottage. We welcome your participation and know that your experience will be enhanced as you step in to participate as a team member.

The BEST way to avoid getting the flu is to get a flu shot every year.
CDC recommends that influenza vaccination begin as soon as vaccine becomes available in the community and continue throughout the flu season. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against influenza, and influenza seasons can begin as early as October.
Remember, you can’t catch the flu from a flu shot!
