contact usNovember brings exciting changes

D ear Tae Kwon Do family,

We would like to start by thanking all of you for your warm thoughts and wishes as we have gone through this challenging time with Mrs. Kim’s illness and ongoing recovery. It is truly amazing to see the love, generosity, and support from all of our families: a great representation of what Master Kim’s World Class Tae Kwon Do is all about. Our school continues to grow and become stronger because of the love and support all of you give to us.

This month will bring some new and exciting changes to our school. These changes will allow us to deliver the highest level of service and instruction to the students who continue to develop their minds and bodies and gain greater confi-dence and strength.

A new class schedule begins Nov. 4. Paper schedules may be picked up at the school, and online copies are posted on our website and Facebook page. Please note the following:

Master Kim’s World Class Tae Kwon Do utilizes a curric-ulum that enforces not just the physical aspect of Tae Kwon Do, but also teaches students the values of important life skills such as focus, respect, motivation, and perseverance. As our student body grows, we realize the importance of being able to provide more and more students with the tools to progress without sacrificing the individual care, attention, and quality of instruction that Master Kim’s has come to be known for. So also going into effect this month are some changes to the tip and class attendance requirements.

Belt classes and family classesThe focus in these classes will primarily be on developing

Tae Kwon Do techniques and learning the required poomsae (forms), and one-step sparring (color belts) or self defense (black belts). Students will be able to receive their white, yel-low, and green tips in these classes.

Board-breaking classIn an effort to streamline classes and make sure the ap-

propriate amount of time is spent on curriculum, a board-breaking class has been added on Saturdays. Orange tips for breaking can only be earned during board-breaking class. Students are required to attend just one board-breaking

class before their testing time. Students will learn proper position-ing, technique, action, and flow for their required board breaking. They will train with foam boards with instructors, then move on to real boards at the end of the class. Breaking real boards will provide the students with the confidence they need and help alleviate any fears or nervousness associated with breaking a real board. Students may purchase boards for $2 per board.

Light/controlled-contact sparringOlympic-style sparring has been gaining ground the

world over as a sport that uses an athlete’s coordination, reaction time, strength, and overall athletic abilities in a competitive but respectful setting. We at Master Kim’s feel that this integral part of World Taekwondo Federation Tae Kwon Do has much to offer for the students’ physical devel-opment, and have decided to integrate contact sparring as part of our curriculum for yellow belts and higher. Students will receive a red tip for sparring, which can only be earned by attending light/controlled-contact sparring classes on Saturdays. Students must attend at least one class during the period between belt tests.

Sparring classes have been separated into low belts and high belts. Low belts will learn the rules, regulations, and etiquette of Olympic-style sparring and develop introduc-tory techniques and strategies. High belts will focus on advanced techniques, strategies, ring management, and situational drills. All participants must have contact sparring gear to participate in this class.

Ladies’ contact sparring gear comprises helmet, mouth-piece, arm guards, shin/instep guards, and chest protector. Gentlemen’s contact sparring gear comprises helmet, mouth-piece, arm guards, shin/instep guards, groin cup, and chest protector.

We realize these changes will present challenges to many, but we are confident that they will help strengthen our “healthy body, healthy mind”-based philosophy. We believe in our families’ abilities to stand up tall during challenging times, as was evident these past few months, and we ask that you continue to support us in our endeavors to share with you our knowledge, insights, and love of all that Tae Kwon Do has to offer.

Thank you everyone for your love and understanding during these trying times! Your compassion has kept our convictions strong and further proven that together, we can accomplish anything!

With love and pride,Master Kim’s World Class Tae Kwon Do staff
