Purpose:

To observe osmosis in a cell.

•1) Place eggs in vinegar to remove shell.•2) Measure weight of egg.•3)Measure size of egg.•4) Place one egg in water, place other egg in corn syrup.•5) Weight and measure eggs again.

Hypothesis:

Egg in Corn Syrup1. Weight may be heavier.2. Size may look the same.3. Might look glossy, shiny, sticky.

Observations: 3 visual observations

• Bubbles going up.• When shells got out vinegar, result was bouncy and squishy.• After 24 hours, lots of foam near top of beaker.

Conclusion:

• Became larger because water moved into egg.

• Because egg had lower concentration of water.

• Moved from higher concentration>lower concentration.

• Became smaller because water moved out of egg.

• Because egg had higher water concentration.

• Moved from lower concentration>lower concentration.

Conclusion:Egg in Water:• Hypothesis was wrong because

molecules are bigger and egg would be too.

are bigger and egg would be too.• (Egg was light and small)• Size: Molecules might be too big

and can’t absorb corn syrup as much as water.
