Mission Statement St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church, Anderson SC was founded in 1943 by the Franciscans of the Holy Name Province, New York. The intention then and today, was and is to, in the spirit of Jesus Christ and St. Francis, minister in and with the African

American Catholic community and to reach out to the African Americans of Anderson County. Furthermore, all who come to St. Mary’s from whatever background and ethnicity with a desire for Christian family will be regarded as brothers and sisters to

us. We also see ourselves as called to live in Gospel relationship to the alienated and the poor of this community.

Meetings are the first Monday of the following months, Jan, Mar, May, Jun, Sep and Nov, at 6:00 PM. In the Parish Hall.

Parish Council meeting will be open to all parishioners. If a non-member parishioner wishes to address the Council, this must be requested, including the subject, at least one week in advance (so it can be put on the agenda) through the Parish Council President. Presentation must be limited to the subject requested.

Friar Aubrey will be teaching our Baptismal Preparation Class. The classes will be held on the 2nd Saturdays, at 10:00 AM in the basement of the Friary. Please enter the Friary through the side Yellow Door.

RCIA

RCIA (The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults) is a process for adults to enter the Catholic Church. Classes are open to all adults, including unbaptized adults, baptized adults interested in becoming Catholic, Catholics who want to renew or deepen their understanding of the faith, and any adults who are simply curious about the Catholic faith.

Classes are each Sunday after the 6:00 p.m. Mass.

RCIA (El Rito de la Iniciación Cristiana de los Adultos) es un proceso para que los adultos ingresen a la Iglesia Católica. Las clases están abiertas a todos los adultos, incluyendo adultos no bautizados, adultos bautizados interesados en convertirse en católicos, católicos que quieren renovar o profundizar su com-prensión de la fe, y cualquier adulto que simplemente tiene curiosidad por la fe católica.

Anointing of the Sick / Unción de los enfermos

Is anyone among you sick? He should summon the presbyters of the church, and they should pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord, and the prayer of faith will save the sick person, and the Lord will raise him up.

(James 5: 14-15)

The Sacrament of the Sick renews trust in God, strengthens resolve in the face of difficulties, grants a participation in the saving work of Christ, forgives sins and prepares a person for the final journey home to the Father's house.

The Sacrament of the Sick is available upon request for persons anticipating surgery, suffering from serious illness or notably weak due to advanced age.

Persons wishing to receive the Sacrament of the Sick may see the priest after Mass or call the office and arrange for an appointment or home visit. The Sacrament is regularly made available to persons hospitalized or in nursing homes.

Hay alguno entre ustedes que esté enfermo? Debe convocar a los presbíteros de la iglesia, y deben orar por él y ungirlo con aceite en el nombre del Señor, y la oración de fe salvará al enfermo, y el Señor lo levantará.

(Santiago 5: 14-15)
