Technical advice for selection of suitable BWMS
3D Modeling by means of 3D Laser Scanner
If a shipping company decides to install a BWMS in engine room or
similar location in case where there are not so much spaces, which is
a particular concern for existing vessels, much more effort must be
made in order to obtain information required for suitable
construction, including onboard inspections and developing detailed
drawings for installation based on original 2D plans.
However, using 3D laser scanner, you can significantly reduce
man-hours needed for such works.
Therefore, 3D drawings made by scanning ship’s internal structures
and arrangements using 3D laser scanner can be most effective for
smoothly facilitating the installation design works. We can provide
support in preparing drawings using this technology.

ClassNK CMAXS LC-A detects abnormality of sensing data by two analysis methods, ANACONDA a machine learning algorithm using correlations between measurements developed by IBM and mapping method which are widely used in conventional condition monitoring system. ClassNK CMAXS LC-A diagnoses the condition of equipment, parts and functions based on multiple abnormality detection results and displays the valuable recommended maintenance information of equipment from the diagnosis result. It enables crew members to do proper and prompt maintenance and repair work. ANACONDA incorporated in ClassNK CMAXS LC-A makes it easy to apply abnormality detection to equipment in relation to which engineers have little previous data analysis experience.
In addition, ClassNK CMAXS LC-A make it possible to apply abnormality detection, condition diagnosis and troubleshooting functions for not only one equipment but also a wide variety equipment in engine room.

Amendments to MARPOL Annex VI were adopted at the 62nd session of the Marine Environment Protection
Committee (MEPC 62) held in July 2011 that make SEEMP mandatory from 1 January 2013. Then, all
ships including existing ships are required to retain a SEEMP onboard on or after 1 January 2013.

2.We send a SEEMP Template by e-mail to the applicant.
3.The applicant determines (with our support) the
indispensable activities/measures for the ship’s
energy efficiency management etc, and enter them into
the SEEMP Template.
4.After settlement of contents of SEEMP by the
applicant, we will complete SEEMP and send it back to
the applicant with SOF in accordance with IMO
Guidelines.

Implementation
SEEMP is to be developed based on the energy efficiency
improvement measures to be adopted according to actual
situation of each ship in fleet owned by shipping
company, taking relevant IMO Guidelines (see Resolution
MEPC.213 (63)) into account. However, approval of
SEEMP by the Flag state or RO is not required.
SEEMP involves a wide range of details. Therefore,
shipping companies should carefully consider the details
to be included in each ship-specific SEEMP, such as
selection of operational measures to be covered, goal
setting, and similar factors taking corporate policy into
account.
In order to support shipping companies in smooth
development of SEEMP for ships in their fleet, we offer
“Development of SEEMP” including providing a
SEEMP Template developed by us that can ease process
of developing SEEMP for each ship and help facilitating
to obtain SOF. SOF will be effective as evidence of

FROSIO is a leading certifying body, established in 1986, qualified to grant inspector qualifications to
inspect surface treatments and the coating condition of ships, offshore and
onshore steel structures.
The qualification of inspectors certified by FROSIO has been prevailed widely in
Europe and Asia, recognized by IMO, and acclaimed as the international
qualification in the field of coating and surface treatment.
As of Feb 2015, the total number of FROSIO inspectors is 7,741 in the world,
and 3,150 inspectors, as 40% of all inspectors, has been obtained the qualifi-
cation in Asian Region.
What is FROSIO ?
The resolutions concerning Performance Standards for Protective Coatings (PSPC) for dedicated seawater
ballast tanks in all types of ships, cargo oil tanks of crude oil tankers, etc. has been adopted by IMO and
already entered into force. As required by PSPC, coating inspections must be carried out by the qualified
coating inspectors certified to FROSIO Level III, etc.

Requirements for approval and certification are as follows:
1) Attend a training course to have a duration of 80 hours provided by a FROSIO approved training body
2) Pass both theoretical and practical exams
FROSIO certification scheme has three different levels.
Qualified coating inspector IMO admits is FROSIO
Level III.
● Inspector certificate Level III Candidate with at least 5 years relevant experience*
whereof minimum 2 years shall be documented
inspection experience
● Inspector certificate Level II Candidate with minimum 2 years relevant experience*
● Inspector candidate certificate Level I Candidates with no relevant experience* or less
that required for level II

Training Course in Assistant to Coating Inspectors to meet PSPC
The resolutions concerning Performance Standards for Protective Coatings (PSPC) for dedicated seawater
ballast tanks in all types of ships, cargo oil tanks of crude oil tankers, etc. has been adopted by IMO and
already entered into force. As required by PSPC, coating inspections must be carried out by the qualified
coating inspectors certified to FROSIO* Level III, NACE Level 2 or equivalent as verified by Administration.
Due to huge volume of such inspections, IMO accepts use of “Assistant to Coating Inspectors” who
supports/performs part of inspections under coating inspectors supervision subject to be trained to coating
inspectors satisfaction.
