Pi Day is celebrated onMarch 14th (3/14) aroundthe world. Pi (Greek letter
“π”) is the symbol used inmathematics to represent aconstant — the ratio of thecircumference of a circleto its diameter — which isapproximately 3.14159. Pi has been calculatedto over one trillion digitsbeyond its decimal point. As an irrational andtranscendental number,it will continue infinitely
without repetition orpattern. While only ahandful of digits are neededfor typical calculations, Pi’sinfinite nature makes it a funchallenge to memorize, andto computationally calculatemore and more digits. National Pi Day is alsoa day that lots of pizza chains jump on the bandwagon to
celebrate, peddling somegreat deals on pizza pies.In fact, Pizza Hut called onall math experts and PizzaHut fans nationwide with achance to win free “pie,” —that’s 3.14 years of pizza —by going online and beingthe first to answer one ofthe three math problemsinvolving pi (answers weretime stamped).
