• Israel was sinning & disobedient to God• They were suffering under the Philistines (Goliath the

giant was a Philistine)

God sent help in the most amazing way …• A man named Manoah

& his wife could not have children

• The Angel of the Lord appeared to Manoah’s wife: “… you shall conceive a son”

• The child will be set apart/dedicated to God

• He will deliver Israel from its enemy

• So happy, she went & told Manoah, who asked God to send the Angel again

• The Angel taught them how to raise the child: he is to be holy & set apart for God’s work

• In thanks giving Manoah & his wife offered a sacrifice to the Lord

• The wife gave birth to a boy, he was special indeed … He had super human strength

• He used his bare hands to kill a lion

• He used a donkey jaw bone to defeat 1,000 Philistines

• He pushed 2 giant temple pillars, destroying many Philistines inside

The Philistines became very afraid of Israel because of this man!

Who is he?

SAMSON!

“The Angel of the Lord shall encamp around those who fear him …” Psalm 34:7

MANOAH AND THE ANGEL OF GOD

1) HOW did Israel behave towards God?

• They were sinful and disobedient

2) HOW did God behave towards Israel?

• He loved them and sent them help

3) DO we need BIG muscles to defeat the devil?

• No, our true strength is in God

• God gives us the inner strength (love, patience, courage, will-power, determination …)

• no matter how big or small, young or old, we can defeat the devil

• Remember … God always responds to our needs, because He loves us!

• Be obedient and holy, so God can do wonders in us

• Our true strength is from God, no matter how young or old
