Long Neck Sunrise Rotary Club NEWS RELEASE 3 rd Graders at Long Neck Elementary School Receive Thesauruses From Long Neck Sunrise Rotary Club (Millsboro) (March 2016) — 112 third grade students at Long Neck Elementary School were treated to a special surprise from members of the local Long Neck Sunrise Rotary Club, Tuesday morning, February 16. Each student received his or her own copy of Webster’s Thesaurus. This is the sixth year that the Long Neck Sunrise Rotary Club has distributed a dictionary or thesaurus to third graders at the school. Part of an international effort known as The Dictionary Project, the program was started in 1992 and has been embraced by many groups throughout the world, including Rotary clubs,. Since its implementation, over 25 million children have received dictionaries through this program. The Long Neck Sunrise Rotary Club uses proceeds from its popular golf outing held each June at The Peninsula to purchase the dictionaries for the students. “The students are thrilled to receive these resources from Rotary, and our teachers are able to work them into current class assignments making the project a win-win for everyone,” remarks Cathy Besden- Showell, School Counselor, Long Neck Elementary School. “We are very fortunate to have the Long Neck Sunrise Rotary Club take such a strong interest in the welfare of our children.” The Long Neck Sunrise Rotary Club meets weekly at 7:30 am on Tuesdays for breakfast at the Ocean Grill II on Long Neck Road.
