Pain and suffering has led me on my journey to seek answers. In 1944, I married my G.I. husband and immigrated to the United States a year later. In my home town of Naples, Italy, I maintained good health throughout WWII even with little to eat most days. After coming to the United States and enjoying the bounties of this great country, my health took a turn for the worse. I was faced with chronic constipation which led to hemorrhoids and years of pain and suffering. I had two surgeries, one of which left me bedridden for months. I knew if I ate, I had to eliminate, so I ate very little and went from 125 pounds to 90 pounds.

My sister-in-law found a hippie couple that used herbs. They helped me more than any doctor. I knew little about nutrition, and they instructed me on what to eat: no sugar and no white flour products, lots of vegetables, all-bran cereal for fiber and coffee to stimulate the liver. This became my routine. Even when I went to Italy on the beautiful ocean liner The Michelangelo, I’d forgo the wonderful foods offered at breakfast and had my bowl of all-bran cereal.

My late husband never had bowel problems but died of colon cancer in 1971. I was the one with colon problems, yet he was the one to die. I began to study herbs and iridology—examining the iris of the eye to diagnose health problems.

I had a lady from southeastern Utah come stay with me for two weeks while we worked on a formula to help her. She had been doing juice fasts and not improving. Doing an iris analysis, I could see she had many parasites throughout her body. I prayed to find the herbs to rid her of parasites and heal her body.

God directed me to the herbs that I should use. As she cleansed, she passed parasites and other matter. With the success I had with her, I began using the same formula on my other clients, helping them to achieve similar results.

About this time, I was introduced to AIM’s barley powder. I began giving it to my clients. I was cleaning them out with the herbs and building them up with the barley.

Dennis Itami and Ron Wright took notice of the amount of barley I was selling, and Ron made a trip

to St. George to see what I was doing. After using my herbal formula himself and sharing it with a few individuals, he asked me what my dream would be. Of course, it would be finding a better and less expensive way to take the formula. He provided a chemist to break the formula down and what we now have is AIM Herbal Fiberblend®.

Thanks to Heavenly Father and AIM, I have been led on an incredible journey. Heavenly Father provided the way and the means to bring about a product that has helped thousands of people, not only with good elimination and healthy colons, but it has also prevented a lot of unnecessary suffering. There is no better feeling than to receive a letter or a phone call thanking me for sharing Herbal Fiberblend, BarleyLife and the other AIM products.

If fishing is your thing, nearby Table Rock Lake is one of the best bass-fishing lakes in the United States. Then there’s historic Marvel Cave which has one of the largest cave entrance rooms under the continent. Take a traditional cave tour, or if you think you’re brave enough, test your nerves by taking a tour by lantern light.

Swiss ChardSwiss chard is a

leafy vegetable in the same family as spinach. It

What’s New? Kale contains both kaempferol and quercetin.

Kale, along with other cruciferous vegetables, is known for its supply of indoles. According to the National Cancer Institute research has shown that indoles “inhibit the development of cancer in several organs in rats and mice, including the bladder, breast, colon, liver, lung, and stomach.”

Arugula Arugula, also known as

rocket lettuce, is a green cruciferous vegetable. It’s

a good source for vitamins A, C and K, calcium as well as

dietary nitrate, alpha-lipoic acid and chlorophyll. Like broccoli, it contains sulfuraphane and indoles.

What’s New? As a cruciferous vegetable, arugula shares a

lot of redundant properties with broccoli and kale. However, arugula has been noted for its thiocyanate content which was shown to suppress inflammatory mediators in a study published in the aptly named Mediators of Inflammation.

We live in an age where everything we buy is also something else. Our phones are cameras. Our watches are computers. You can play games on portable stereo systems, and there are now computers that can be used like books. Two-in-one items might serve double purposes, but neither purpose seems to work half as well.

Luckily in a world of unnecessary com-plications, there is still Just Carrots. Just Carrots is as no-nonsense as its name implies. It says what it is, and it is what it says. 18-28% reduction in breast cancer risk. Starting in 1989, researchers took the blood samples of over 30,000 women and had them fill out questionnaires to assess their baseline risks for breast cancer. In 2000, more than 18,000 of those women donated blood a second time. And by 2010, 2,188 women had developed breast cancer. Researchers

compared the blood of the afflicted women with blood of women who shared similar baseline risks and found that the women who had the highest amounts of carotenoids in their blood also had an 18-28% lower risk of breast cancer when compared to those with the lowest amount of blood carotenoids. Additionally, this study suggested that high levels of blood carotenoids also reduced tumor severity and recurrence.

Also making the news was a 2014 Dutch study published in Nutrition, Metabolism and

Cardiovascular Diseases. In the paper, researchers found that high

levels of alpha-carotene were associated with a 15% decrease in diabetes risk and that beta-carotene levels were linked to a 22% reduction. Scientists believe that the diminution of this risk comes from the antioxidant effects of the carotenes via a reduction in oxidative stress commonly associated with diabetes. The study followed nearly 40,000 Europeans for ten years. Additionally, only food sources of alpha- and beta-carotene were analyzed.

My story goes back to my late thirties. I felt held captive by a chronic fatigue that I could not shake. I never knew from day to day if I would have energy for even mild physical activities. Even enjoyable things like dancing or raspberry-picking were of-ten too exhausting for me to endure.

My enthusiasm was dimming more and more. I felt anxious or depressed. But thankfully, a very lovely, elderly woman told me about the benefits of AIM’s barley grass powder. A hope was sparked that somehow nutrition could be a significant solution. Twice a day I took it while making changes in my diet. My energy level increased dramatically.

Although I was no longer tired all the time, my fitness level was very low. However, I wasn’t in a place to even consider starting exercise before taking greens like AIM BarleyLife®. A strong desire to be fit began to grow in me, so I bought a book on running and started out. I

called my run the geriatric shuffle because I was ridiculously slow.

But I loved it.

made a wonderful running friend, and we began to challenge ourselves with various kinds of running: hills, sprints, intervals, long runs. It was so much fun. I was so relieved and thankful because the chronic fatigue was just a memory.

When I was fifty-two, my son showed me video clips of the Tough Mudder and Spartan races, both challenging events for physical fitness and stamina. Silent tears flowed down my cheeks as I watched, longing to be able to participate in such events.

I wanted so much to be successful. I had heard some good things about the benefits of CrossFit, so I excitedly signed up. The overall physical benefits have been huge for me. Not only was I able to finish the Tough Mudder event with no problem, but I can participate in countless physical activities with fun and success.

It is true that you get out of exercise what you put into it. I call this “making deposits in my fitness account.” The workouts are always very demanding, but I like to “make good nutrition deposits.”

In the summer of 2011, on a kick to find adventure, they signed up

for the Spartan Beast, a 12-plus-mile race through a series of challenging obstacles in Killington, VT. Think mud pits, barbed-wire crawls, fire-pit leaps and wall climbs. Anything can happen during these kinds of races. But according to Sue the usual damages “are cuts from barbed wire, face-plants in the mud, not stooping low enough under logs and banging our heads, getting shocked, jumping on fire instead of over and clutching onto Taylor for dear life every time there’s a water obstacle!”

During a race, they offer each other inspiration although they don’t run side by side the entire time. If one gets ahead, it motivates the other to kick their game up a notch. That’s not to say they aren’t competitive with each other, but they save that energy for training. Although Taylor is now in college, she keeps up with Sue’s regimen and often adds to it.

Sue says it’s absolutely amazing to compete in races with her daughter. “I love that we can share these crazy adventures together. Taylor has such an incredible work ethic. She realizes that you get what you put in. She’s placed top in her age group at almost every race, obtained a perfect 4.0 in the Honors Program at University of New Hampshire for the past two years all while working at the gym, (where else?) tutoring others in business courses and training for OCR’s (obstacle course races)!”

And Taylor couldn’t be happier to follow in her mother’s footsteps. “My mom is such a huge role model to me! I have really fallen in love with weightlifting as well as obstacle course

racing and doing these activities by her side makes them even better! I’m so thankful that my mom introduced me to these sports that have become such an enjoyable and exciting part of my life.
