exercise science

Exercise Science• two-year diploma

• September admission

• prepares students for CSEP/CPT certification

The rapidly changing and expanding field of exercise science focuses on the body

and the science of physical activity. Fitness professionals, also called fitness leaders,

personal trainers, lifestyle counsellors or fitness assessors, work in the health industry helping

people of all ages and abilities make the right decisions about their physical well-being.

Our challenging program gives students the opportunity to become certified fitness leaders

with the Alberta Fitness Leadership Certification Association (AFLCA) after only one year of

study. You’ll learn the science of the body as well as how to share that knowledge with others

through courses in fitness leadership and fitness assessment. You’ll also get plenty of practical

opportunities to work with actual clients.

Second-year students gain the skills required to manage clients, present seminars and prepare

for certification as a Certified Personal Trainer as recognized by the Canadian Society for

Exercise Physiology (CSEP).

At the end of your studies, you’ll be ready to step up to a successful career in the

health and fitness industry.

The instructors at Lethbridge College were great. They were very personal, they knew your name and you weren’t just a number.”
