You can read more about KTHS student results and efforts turn to page 2. YEAR 12 CLASSES: Next Wednesday is the last day of classes for Year 12 students before they commence their exams. The Year 12’s, in conjunction with the staff have planned a number of activities, including morning tea with the staff, a dress up day and a trip to Echuca. These are activities for the Year 12 students only and I request that all other students respect the Year 12’s by not getting involved. NEW COMPUTERS: The School has just recently purchased $50,000 worth of computer technology. These include 10 Ipads, 25 laptops and three 55’ touch screen TV’s. We have been able to do this in part from school funds and in part from the eLearning computer levy. KTHS students will now have access to more modern ICT equipment across a variety of formats which will help to make them even more work ready. STUDENT BEHAVIOUR: Recently I received an email from the proprietors of Bembooka Ski Lodge where students from Kerang stayed while on their ski camp. Here is a snippet of what he had to say…. ‘The students should be commended for the way they conducted themselves. They were very respectful of the other guests in the lodge as well as being friendly and supportive of each other. They completed their meal preparation and kitchen clean up duties willingly and without complaint. We have a lot of school groups stay at our lodge and your group was definitely one of the best we have had so far. The manner in which your staff and students conducted themselves is a credit to Kerang SC, and Bembooka Ski club would be more than happy to have your school use our lodge again in the future.’ It is reports like this that makes everything worthwhile but it is also what we have come to expect from students of Kerang Technical High school. Well done to everybody. Dean Rogers, Principal.

Relay for Life is a chance for communities to recognise and celebrate those who have
overcome cancer or are undergoing treatment, as well as the people who care for them.
Whatever the reason, you’ll never forget your first Relay experience. The Relay also provides an
opportunity to celebrate the memory of loved ones lost to cancer. Thousands of Australians
participate in over 200 Relays across Australia and anyone can participate.
Relay For Life began in Australia in 1999 and had since become the largest fundraising event for cancer in the world. Central Murray (Swan Hill) Relay For Life is on:
Friday 14th October 6.30pm to
Saturday 15th October 12.30pm
at Riverside Park. There are currently 33 teams with 299
participants participating. If you wish to walk with the participants, or donate money to
cancer research, you can donate online to the Central Murray (Swan Hill) Team.
EVERY TUESDAY: at LUNCHTIME 1.00—2.00pm & AFTERSCHOOL 3.30—4.30pm.
If you are unable to make it on a Tuesday at either of these times, please contact Mrs Gail McKenzie, Uniform Co-ordinator
on 0409 961 349 to arrange a suitable time. As always, your child can always try on for size the uniforms that are
required, the uniforms will then be parcelled up and left in the
General Office for payment, on collection.

ABSENCE NOTIFICATION LETTERS
There is a requirement set out by DEECD for parents to explain any absences a student has. There are very clear links between student attendance, academic performance and student wellbeing.
Unless parental notification is received an absence is known as Absent- Unexplained. These need to be altered to Absent – Medical, Absent – Illness, Absent – Parent choice, etc through communication with the office.
PROCESS OF LATE OR EARLY DEPARTURE:
If a student arrives late to school – They require a NOTE from a parent outlining the reason and this is handed to the office as the student signs into the touch screen. If a note is not received it remains as Late – Unexplained.
If a student is departing early from school - They are required to go through the Year level coordinator (with a note) and obtain a Green slip which will be filled in and the student hands this to the office while signing out. This makes the process explained and no notification will be sent to parents.
Any absence where this process is not carried out will be marked as “Unexplained” and these will be forwarded to parents for clarification.
INABILITY TO OPEN ABSENCE LETTER ATTACHMENT:
Parents who are receiving emails through their phone or portable device will need to have a Word viewer to open the attachment which is easily obtained from an App store. A Word document (.doc) does allow parents to type straight into the file and email straight back linking a reason with the date presented.
PARENTS NOT RECEIVING EMAILS:
If you have not got your email on the school system or have changed it recently please notify the
office. Parents without an email can request letters to be sent home with their child. You can do this
by writing on the below form or emailing - [email protected]. Parents can request absence notes through the office at any time.
