ABSTRACTPleasant Street is a pristine

example of urban decay caused by the implementation of high-

capacity roadways. Liberty Street is the grand divider of wealth found

in southern Over-the-Rhine and abject poverty found to the north of

it. Our team focused on mending the riff, splitting this once vibrant community and proposing infill

development to rebuild and restore the community.

PROCESSBefore we began designing interventions that would remedy community issues, we focused on understanding the layout and land use of Pleasant Street. With large amounts of vacancy along the northern blocks of Pleasant Street, we honed in on the Liberty Street - Findlay Market corridor. Noticing that there were core amenities missing in Northern Over-the-Rhine, we understood that creating a commercial area connected to the community was essential.

When devising a proposal to help remedy the issues plaguing the community, our group focused on pedestrian-driven options. We used precedents from cities in our region, such as Pittsburgh and Cleveland, and modified them to fit into Cincinnati’s unique urban landscape. Whether it was introducing a brick road paver along Pleasant Street or adding tree lining, we felt that both soft and hardscape changes would benefit the revitalization efforts for this community. A new commercial district proposed along Liberty Street would allow for amenity infill to alleviate issues many in the community face on a daily basis. This district would also allow the merger of these two locales into one successful Pleasant Street.

33 DREAMS IS A STORY OF A YOUNG MOTHER LOOKING TO BETTER HER YOUNG CHILDREN’S LIVES AS THEY WAIT FOR THE BUS. 33 DREAMS IS A STORY OF AN OLDER GENTLEMAN UNDER SHELTER FROM THE RAGING STORM IN HIS SURROUNDINGS.

33 DREAMS IS A STORY ABOUT HOW A WOMAN WAS NOT ROBBED WALKING DOWN A RECENTLY ILLUMINATED WARSAW AVENUE AT NIGHT.33 DREAMS IS A SIMPLE INTERVENTION TO A COMPLEX OF PROBLEMS, GIVING PURPOSE TO AN AREA THAT HAS FACED YEARS OF NEGLIGENCE.

COMMUNITYISSUESWith minimal lighting on Warsaw Avenue, this locale is a hotbed for criminal activity at night. Maintenance of public amenities is not well

done and blight is fairly visible along the Warsaw Avenue corridor. GreatSchools.com gave all public schools in East Price Hill failing

grades (3 out of 10 being the highest).

DESIGNINTERVENTIONLighting from the portable shelter provides safe conditions for both patrons and walkers. The shelter creates a refuge for Metro bus passengers during inclement weather. Designed to be a library on the go, 33 Dreams allows for an unregulated book exchange, giving the gift of knowledge to the community it serves. All portions of the shelter can be reused or re-purposed, and most pieces are locally sourced.

DESIGNCOLLECTIVEDesign Collective is a multi-disciplinary firm located in the Inner Harbor of Baltimore, Maryland. With a focus on sustainability, Design Collective takes pride in a variety of project types, ranging from university housing to public connectivity. I worked in the Urban Design department, creating Photoshop renderings from AutoCAD line work.

GHSARCHITECTSI completed my first Co-op experience at GHS Architects in Manhattan during the spring of 2013, assisting with AutoCAD drawings and marketing brochures. The firm caters to a wide range of architectural needs, and made history with a design/build green building project, making it the first of its kind in Harlem.

The SoHo building has been dubbed the most artistic building in NYC by its owners, Goldman Properties. We were contracted to remodel the storefront of the historic property and to create marketing plans of the first floor space. As the design intern, I was responsible for drafting the plans, as well as assisting with the 3D renderings found on the marketing sheet.

250W.85THGHS was commissioned to create a schematic design for a penthouse that was luxurious, but did not alter the building’s modes of egress. By combining three miniscule apartments on the penthouse, we were able to create an up to code, luxury penthouse suite, fitting for the illustrious historic building in which it is housed.
