The project involved architecturally developing and documenting the schematic design by tonychi & Associates for a new house, Seqa na leqa. A zinc, standing seam roof echoing the forms of traditional indigenous houses is combined with generously-scaled floor to ceiling windows taking advantage of the spectacular views and ocean breezes.

The house was divided into 4 ordered portions: Master Wing, Library, Dining, and the Great Hall. These 4 sections separated the client’s privacy levels: from the privacy of the Master Wing to the lavish entertaining area of the Great Hall. Also included was a residence for a permanent staff and a Guest Villa.

Situated on a beautiful plot of land overlooking the Hudson River, this 1980’s suburban ranch house was given three spatial flourishes by reconfiguring the ceiling plane, augmented by LED backlit glass panels, and replaced the windows overlooking the river with larger, simpler glazing. A fully renovated Kitchen was created by combining the existing kitchen and dining room into a spacious center for the house. A Spirit Wall, with natural thatch imbedded between resin outer layers, defines the entry to the house and provides a backdrop for antique artwork. In addition, all the bathrooms were also renovated to give a clean modern look as required by the client.

acadia summer art program art gallery addition (aka flower house addition) |mt. desert island, mainetype: art gallery work: new construction/additionarea: 2000sf (approx)

This project was in association with Denise Scott Brown and Robert Venturi, for a gallery addition and dining annex for the Acadia Summer Art Program near Bar Harbor, Maine. A retreat center for artists from around the world, an art gallery was needed for exhibiting the work of these artists as well as providing additional space for facilitating the exchange of ideas between the artists.

Two-dimensional iconography on the east elevation complements and enhances the more residentially-scaled and traditionally-inspired massing and materials, which in turn are related and defer to the existing complex of buildings.

renovation + addition | bridgehamtpon, nytype: residence work: renovation + additionarea: 2000 sf (renovation) + 700 sf (addition)

An existing beach home built in the 80’s was renovated to open up the main living space to have a new large oceanfront facade. The interior finishes were completely replaced. The existing siding was also re-placed with stained cedar siding which complemented the white ash panelling on the interior.

An addition was added after the renovation , cantilevering over the existing garage. The addition provided two additional rooms with their own respective bathrooms.

For a restaurant’s expansion into Brooklyn, the project involved , in conjunction with David Buckner of Solar Energy Systems, the design of a photovoltaic market stall comprised of an array of 30 polycrystalline PV panels supported on a steel frame anchored by Techno Pieux drilled foundations, with cross bracing providing stall definition and display support.

A nursery and office space was needed for a previously renovated 18th century farmhouse. The solution was to insert a glassy workshop between the existing farm-house and the 1992 master bedroom wing. The greater height of the new office complements the more standard ceiling heights throughout the house and enhances its spacious feeling while maintaining the traditional vocabulary of the farmhouse and previous additions. Built-in cabinets, daybed and desk in the nursery, a small gallery space leading to the studio, and newly sky-lit bathroom completed the renovation, allowing the house to graciously accommodate the growing family
