With a daylight saving change on Sunday 7 April we have been working on making sure that the Decorative Lighting in our trees has had a
maintenance check as there was a number of incidents of vandalism that had occurred in two of the trees over the summer. We have asked Dave to make sure all the Under Veranda Lights are working but please phone and let us know if there is a problem outside your business – 527 6389. Taoa has been working with Ahmed from Supavalue, 88
Queens Rd to try and quell the boisterous youth who have been congregating in front of his shop from 3.30 – 7pm each day. Taoa’s presence has certainly had an effect on reducing the number of kids ‘hanging out’ in the area. Thank you to the business people who rang to express their anger with the front page article in the East & Bays Courier on Wednesday 13 March with the headlines reading ‘Homeless
rising’. Lyn Goddard from Panmure Pharmacy, 200 Queens Rd, felt so angry she wrote a letter to the editor that was published on Friday 22 March. Lyn said: ‘I think your article about homeless in Panmure sends the wrong idea out to your readers. I have owned a business
in Queens Rd since 1999. Over the past few years the number of
homeless and beggars on the street has decreased
substationally. This is due to the work of Chris, Lisa and Taoa from the Panmure Business Association. Lisa and Taoa know
the names of just about all the beggars that have frequented Panmure. They are not unsympathetic to their plight and
try to help where they can. Apparently these people are not homeless- they have homes but
do not always want to go there. They also have WINZ support. A few years ago I hated walking down Queens Rd as there were
often beggars wanting money. Now I don’t think I have seen one for at least six months. Panmure
used to have problems with windscreen washers demanding money after they had “cleaned” your windscreen. The PB in
conjunction with the local police managed to stop this happening. We want Panmure to become a desirable place to shop. We need
to attract interesting shops which people want to visit’ It is our belief that we do not have an escalating homeless problem. Over the past few years, Taoa, Lisa and I have been fortunate to be part of discussion with City Mission, Lifewise, NZ Police and recently had fantastic support from Danielle at Island Child Charitable Trust who help us to rehome a family and Gary from the Salvation Army Family Store, 159 Queens Rd, who is in regular contact with some of our people who like to sleep rough.
Autumn Clean Up. Over the week (weather permitting) of Monday 9 - 12 April, Gary and his team from the Salvation Army Family Store, will be cleaning the service lanes throughout our town. Gary’s team will be volunteering their time and muscles for the work but the PBA will pay for their efforts as a donation to the Salvation Army.
Most shops are required to be closed on Good Friday and Easter Sunday under the Shop Trading Hours Repeal Act 1990.
Some businesses are allowed to open on those days: dairies, service stations, takeaway bars, restaurants, cafés, video rental, real estate agencies and chemist shops. Garden centres are only permitted to be open on Easter Sunday.

Locking Rear Shop Doors. A handbag and laptop where stolen from one of our shops when they left the rear door open. This was an open invitation to an opportunistic thief. Despite the hot weather please keep any rear doors secured or have a security mess door
fitted that will keep you cool and safe.
Car Windows Open. Since the beginning of March four cars in a number of our car parks have left windows open. Easy enough to forget when you are unaccustomed to such beautiful but this is once again an open invitation for a would be criminal.
Thank you again to the local Tamaki Community Patrols who are randomly patrolling our streets and making sure you and your property are safe. We truly appreciate your support.
I wish you and your families a safe and happy Easter break.

How to Stop Bleeding From a Minor
Head Wound
Minor cuts on the head often bleed heavily because the face and scalp have many blood vessels close to the sur-face of the skin. Although this amount of bleeding may be alarming, many times the injury is not severe and the bleeding will stop with treatment you can do at home. But it is important to know the difference between wounds you can treat at home and head wounds that need emer-gency treatment. If a cut from a head injury is deep enough to have pene-trated the skull, emergency treatment is needed. Call 111 immediately.
Farewell Panmure …
The bright lights of Hollywood are calling and the Muppets are off to make another movie … but that means a sad farewell to Panmure.
“Quiet on the set” bellows the Director. “Stand by … lights, camera, action” The stage curtain opens and the mass dancing troupe emerge from the wings. The music begins and on the top step the singing superstar Ms Peggy Lee … I mean Miss Piggy Lee appears dressed in a white glittery feathered gown and the crowd erupts with a mighty cheer.
“Miss Piggy! Miss Piggy!” shouted Gonzo “Wake up. We have to go to our farewell function”
“Ok Gonzo, I’m awake” I replied “I must be nice, I must be nice, I must be nice …” I muttered to myself.
We all made our way with towards the Landmark bar & func-
tion venue at 163 Queens Road for our going away function. As a starter we had spring rolls served with dipping sauces, crumbed garlic stuffed mushrooms with aioli and potato wedges with sour cream. Next were spicy chicken nibbles and cheese and broccoli bites finished with lemon meringue for desert … a foodie’s food fantasy.
I stared at my lovely little Kermy and funny looking Gonzo and thought home is where your friends … and food … are.
